I'm apparently several months late to the party but this is unreasonably exciting to me so I don't even care.
http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/668690
this is a revival of Super Mario Bros. Z
a Mario/Sonic crossover animation with shades of Dragon Ball Z
it was a big deal on Newgrounds in like 2007
it's kinda dumb fan fiction or something
But this was a big deal to me when I was like in 4th or 5th grade (and the animation is legitimately VERY high quality for this sort of thing; a lot of work was obviously put into it)
like WHOA
It kinda died after episode 8 I think but now there's a reboot
and I'm not joking
I am unreasonably excited

I'm just opened it and a lot of people gave it 5 stars omg
I will play it
was that game approved by nitendo?
I hope newgrounds will add smbx
(tbh I usually visit the audio section than the game section at NG)

It's not a game, to be clear, it's a flash animation. That's why I put this in Sandbox instead of Video Games. And no, it's not official in any capacity, it's just a fan production.

Bowser's Kingdom was way better, despite SMBZ having way more energy it. I mean seriously I was expecting a Monster energy drink logo at the end of that intro.
Also this now a general Mario flash nostalgia thread.

I remember this! I never got too into watching it, and I watched about three or four episodes. It's nice to reminisce about old stuff I saw on Newgrounds. Though, I think that Mario's Castle Calamity was better.

I remeber watching this when I was like 9 or 10
I was waiting for episode 9 to release but it never came out and I thought it wouldn't ever be recreated, I'm glad someone's working on a remake.

It's the same guy, Alvin-Earthworm, producing the remake just so you know.

Man, everything looks so nice and detailed in comparison to the original episode. I can't wait to see the revived versions of 2 through 8 ... what am I even saying? I can't wait for Alvin to release episode 9! Thanks for bringing up this lost gem's revival Pseudo!

WAIT ITS GETTING REBOOTED??!!!??
This is like Mario Dragonball Z for those who were unaware.
Episode 7 was like an hour long. The gang blew up multiple locations including Yoshi's Island, the Underground, -1, and various other locations. Pretty solid show. Can't wait for the reboots.

It came back to life a month ago, this was my childhood back when I was in elementary school and I'm glad to see it come back 6 years later.
maybe Alvin will finish it this time.

Oh man I remember this series. I used to watch it years ago. I was disappointed when I saw that the series was put to a halt, so it's great that Alvin is reviving it.

That's a really good comparison actually
and the animation quality in SMBZ was way higher quality either way.

I already knew about this when he started reviving it and making it. He has a Twitter account where he does updates and screenshots.
FUN FACT: Alvin-stated that Epidode 6 or 7?(the one when it was 8-bit and right after Yoshi's Island) is going to have a different story and as well as the episodes after that because when he looked back at it he didn't like it.

That was episode 7, I think. Yeah, I also heard he was removing the super soldier guy, Captain Basilisk or whatever. He was cool but I can understand removing him; he didn't add all that much to the plot to be honest.

I don't it's THAT much of an apples to oranges comparison. SMBZ was over the top for a Mario animation. There's another series (Rise of the Mushroom Kingdom I think it's called iirc) which striked a better balance than even Bowser's Kingdom. I mean sure these are three different series going for different things, but you have to acknowledge that they're not all in a vacuum and that there's a huge disparity in quality between them.

Except you can't functionally compare 2 series of completely different genres. That's the reason why there's different categories for entertainment awards.
Saying you like one better is fine, but you can't really compare comedy to action.
