New Extra Mario Bros.

It's time to bring the idea of Extra Mario Bros into SMBX. The episode is meant to be easier than the original in order to allow players
of all skill levels to enjoy the gameplay. The Project is still at the beginning, a big part of the Area 1 has been completed along with the first warp areas.

Some screenshots. Not too detailed mainly because of in how early state the Project is but I will later show more footage from the other areas.

The episode needs a lot darker tilesets for the areas. The original had dark tilesets which looked great. (Kudos to the person behind the original.)

Also the Youtube footage showing the gameplay if you're interested.

If you haven't played the original, go try it out. Especially if you like exploration.

You should fix that clash and cutoff tho...
SMB1 + SMB2 + SMB3 + SMW + 8-bit + Metroid = clash
And the SMB1 grass BGOs have cutoff.

I can fix the cutoff and have the Graphics be SMB3 + Metroid.
Though I need to find the Graphics for SMB3 style color switch blocks, underwater cave tiles etc.
Can I find those from the forum?

Sednaiur has SMB3 style color blocks in his SMB3 expanded graphics pack. You can find that just by looking at the featured page for graphics.

Dayum if you mix them in the right way it would be great.
@SinHeartLess
This project looks nice for SMBX starters like you. I recommend you fix these cut-off(s), and don't mind about the clashes!

Thanks.

I might use a certain castle block from SMB 2 for certain sections. I will exclude the 8-bit tiles from the Project
but maybe put them in a graphic pack and probably release later along with the SML1 backgrounds I ripped and colored for my last Project.

Here's the screenshots.

Area 1 is now done. There will be some secrets which I will add in later. Area 3's Graphics have been mostly done along with some sections of the actual level.

Screenshots are here, please take a look if you have time.

I've been trying stuff with this same concept too, I wish you luck on your project! It looks pretty nice from what you've shown, I think it would be a good idea to make the upgrades with lua rather than events.

I would need a couple of weeks to get the clear understanding of how Lua works.... but I'll look into it.
Considering the amount of trouble it kept giving me last time it's going to take longer than that though.

Some progress with Area 3... swapped SMB3 Stars with SMW stars in order to keep the game from restarting from Area 1 each time I tested and took the star exit.

I have managed to get some more of the Area 3 done. Compensating the situation with clever level design emphasizing
on special traits of different abilities of powerups (including P-Switches).

I wish I could bring the permament upgrades from the original to the episode but of course LunaLua (along with numerous
other programs I need for other stuff) just give me trouble.

But enough ranting, here's another early screenshot of the Area 3. Sorry for the wait. It probably isn't much,
but it's better than nothing. (Last week was a holiday, I needed rest.)

Same with Harvey, people shouldn't be complaining about all styles being clash (other than 8-bit).

Anyways, I'm surprised that someone else knew about this hack and was planning on bringing it to SMBX.
But would this not be using Lunalua, I see that there will be so many events wasted.
Thus, I don't think the regular graphics are well going together, I expected graphics based on the hack itself.
And how will you be able to make the new enemies from the hack if this project shall not use Lunalua?
