Glacialis Terra

Postby Duster » Mon Feb 29, 2016 10:41 am

Hello, it is i, Duster again.

I made a snow level with non linear style in it.
The level is around 3 minutes long, i tried to make the level relaxing and easy at first, then harder.

Here is a screenshot for all of you curious people:

I also made the level not as long as my previous one.
Hope you enjoy the level!

"Kept you waiting huh -Duster's Signature-
Yes, yes you did. I want to play levels by you. In fact, I actually recognize your name now, which is a rarity in this community to be honest. My memory is so bad you are lucky I can even remember how to blink..

My Review:

Atmosphere [5/5]
Latin translation of Glacialis Terra: Icy Land.
To take things as literal as possible, this was spot on. I had no issues whatsoever, aside the lack of snow falling. But this topic will be touched onto later.
To be fair, I am a little disappointed in the simplicity of this level but this isn't really a problem with your style at all.

Level Design [3/5]
-Linear levels are typically levels where you are either forced to go into a direct or the sidepaths posed no use whatsoever. Meaning, this level was still linear.
A way to make a level less linear is remove the necessity to JUST go right, try mixing things up by making the player have to go left in a new section. Simple but as George Carlin once said: "Keeps them on their toes."
-The exploration was nice, but I found it rudimentary to take a sidepath for a Dragon Coin, as I find these things utterly worthless. Side stars are typically more useful and can be tied to a much long sidepath, akin to that of a secret exit's amount of time almost.
Simply put, try making more side paths that don't exactly differ from the main path, but add onto it. Meaning, going into a pipe doesn't mean you come out of the same one, but further in the level by the same (or less) amount of time the sidepath took to explore.

Graphical Continuity [4/5]
I liked everything except your green bushes. I don't know a single bush that blooms during the winter time and is completely immune to snow's effect of being...snowed on.
I recommend checking the graphics packs that are at our disposal for a more fitting graphic, Preferably pick one that is much more white or at least has a tuft of snow on the top.

BGO Placement [4/5]
You took care of all of the land-based BGOs, but you left the sky completely open. There were no clouds or snow particles falling.
I typically don't care about eye candy, but with such an open sky...it's much appreciated.

NPC Placement [5/5]
No issues

Difficulty / Replayability [5/5]
-Level was of decent length
-Level wasn't too difficult but also didn't hold your hand
-Level had quite a few sidepaths, albeit only filled with coins
So, I would play it again but you do have a few visual errors to fix in the level.

Overall Score: 26/30
Final Score: 8.6/10
Judgement: Pretty Good

That is wrong, actually :). Check my levels and try to find bugs/glitches in them.

i didn't mean that your levels are broken, just that you don't think 10 times before placing a platform :p
