SMBX Time Trialing Fun

Postby MidiGuyDP » Fri Feb 05, 2016 9:03 am

Heya everyone! How's it going?

I had this neat idea that I wanted to try out:

Image

So what I did here was set up a timer to appear in the level when you play, and have it stop once you touch the goal, and with that I went and selected a level to start this out with to see if it works or not. (And made a quick little worldmap to hold the level.)
You will need Lunadll/Lunalua for this. I'd recommend just getting SMBX 2.0 Beta. It has it all set up on there. ;)

Here it is in action:

Here's what is set up on lunadll:
-A Timer that stops when you grab the goal (A.k.a. Activate an event called TTTimerStop)
-You automatically start as big Mario & Luigi, and Full Life for Toad & Peach, and Half life for link.
-If you're Mario & Luigi, you will automatically also start with a Fire Flower in reserve
-All checkpoints disappear
(Thank you TheDinoKing432, Spinda & HenryRichard for your assistance)

The first level I went and picked for this is "A Standard Grassland" by "DarkWolf658":
http://www.smbxgame.com/forums/v ... 32&t=12396

So I would like to do something cool with this:
For anyone that wants to try out and share their times, go ahead. Though if anyone has the ability to record their videos, do that as well, and post your best runs to youtube. I will grab the top 4 videos and make them into a race video, something like this:

(Though it'll probably look a little fancier than this, and it'll be just one stage at a time, and it will probably feature the same character, the ideal one for the best time in that stage, in all 4 screens ;))

Here's the files for this: (UPDATE: 04/12/2016 (2 Levels included)
http://www.mediafire.com/download/xrynv ... els%29.zip

If this kicks up well, I'll surely add more levels. But for now, let's start with this one. ;)

Happy Trailing. :D

No need for commentary, and yeah in most cases you'll be using either toad or peach. ^^

Niice Time! I wonder if it'll be possible to do any better. Seems like that may be the max for this one.

EDIT: Added your time to the time list. ;)

There's no way to get it faster than that actually.

For the concept by itself, I really like it. I might try it out in the future and since I have the capeability to record stuff, I might gonna take the challenge if I can.

I recommend you upgrade the download to Mediafire, Dropbox, or anything that isn't Sendspace. Sendspace links run out eventually.

It's a pretty neat concept though.

Changed to mediafire. A lasting link is a really good thing here. ^^

I see why you would do a "sendspace" link here so users only have a limited amount of time to do it. May I send any levels for this, or is it all random out of the levels forum?

Also, I would love to see bossedit8 participate so I can proof my ranking! So, I do appreciate this! Also, that was a good race!

Umm, it is possible to go faster, but you need a leaf to do it! I will see if I can do a run when I have it set to start me out with a leaf!

Edit: Tried it, and it seems impossible to glitch through a wall with a leaf, and immanently double jump to safety as toad is pushed out of the wall.

When it comes to how we'll be doing the runs. I set up the lunadll file to always starts you with the specific power ups, so we'll definitely wont be doing any "Start with capes" runs (Unless certain levels could call for it).

Also, if you have a level you think would be cool to speed run, show me. I'm thinking a cave would be a cool second level to use. Something that isn't too long either (Something like 1-2 mins). Since we can't use checkpoints for this)

Also, got 21:40 in 1-1. YAY!

For future reference, some games count a tie as both people have the same rank, while others treat it as the first person to get that time is the true first place... I can care less which you use, but I just wanted to say it. Congratulations on the time though.

Well, I like what you did with my level. If my lunalua ever becomes playable ill try this guy out. In the mean time ill see if i might be able to get another level for this.

Yeah, we'll definitely go with the tie aspect, however I will but the ones that got the time first on top, that's why my name's under yours. ;)

Can I use one of my long Community Contest levels in this? (If we use my terrible CC11 level, I have to change the checkpoint to something else since removing it makes the level impossible...)

Edit: Also, one thing that might be nice is if the videos have more then one stage per video. 25 second videos are not that pleasant. Also, The "same character" rule is a little akward...

What kind of level is it?

Also, if it's really long, try to shorten it to something that takes like around 1,2 minutes to finish. I'm thinking the average level should be about that long in length.

I may make "World" videos too, where there are most likely 4 levels in a row. Though single level videos would still be there too.

I'm thinking World 1's levels could be something like:
1-1: Basic Grass overworld level (Aka The Current one A Standard Grassland)
1-2: Some sort of cave level that's a bit longer
1-3: Probably an athletic Level
1-4: A basic Castle level

My CC6 level is a very short Ice castle that is so buggy that the puzzle makes it near impossible. (My worst level)
My CC7 level is a Snow Castle and is my longest level to date.
My CC8 level is a long airship with a boss.
My CC9 level is a short grass level, but it uses luna, and stars.
My CC10 level is a Space Factory.
My CC11 level is a Mario input of Sanctuary Fortress from Metroid Prime 2 (My 2nd worst level, and my speed tun took 8 minutes).
My CC12 level is... wait, that contest is still going.
