Friend List Question

What's the point of adding someone to your friends list? What does it do for you? And what about enemies list?

(Sorry if there is already a thread for this, I tried to look and couldn't find anything. If there is one already I'll just delete this one.)

I believe that threads posted by people in your friends list are highlighted, and that posts posted by your enemies don't show up at all for you; it's basically an ignore list.

Friends that are on your own list basically means that you have an easier access to PMs and such while the Foe list makes his posts invisible in the forums until you click the show button on that specific user's post.
