Paint.NET is your solution.

Look into the gfx folder and choose the player you want to change.
Copy all and use paint(.net) to change the desing.

Recolouring is relatively simple. You download Paint.NET from getpaint.net and then use the Recolour tool to do the magic.
Creating a reskin (the character looks different but acts the same) is a bit more difficult and requires knowledge of .ini files to adjust hitboxes and calibrate player movement.
Creating your own character with custom physics, etc. is a highly advanced operation that involves everything above along with highly complex Lua scripting.

It can be complicated but you're able to add physics with Lunalua, but once again it is
very complicated most of the time.
You can change the graphics, but without modding the ini to work, the hit-box will stay and it can mess up the idea.

Paint.NET is the most useful for any kind of pixel art. I'd just stick to that.

Idk why you wouldn't just go for paint.net. With every other software gfx kinda scre over.

Technically any image editor will work. I use GIMP, but you're probably best off with paint.net (since literally everyone else uses that).

Look in the graphic folder. Also, SMBX uses gif files, not gfx files.

Paint.NET and GIMP work relatively well. Paint.NET is much easier to use, though

Is it possible to begin a New frame just on top of the last when editing the .txt file or des it mess up everything so that I have to count the pixels of the original character or mark them with a rectangle?
