It makes perfect sense to give up a fangame in favor of an intellectual property he actually owns, and can therefore make money on. And I don't know if you've played Terraria, but it doesn't play like Minecraft at all.

He got bored of working on SMBX so he decided to work on Terraria. Also, the community on the original forums had completely gone down to shit. It was a cauldron of hate, users were getting banned left and right, and it was sometime at that point where Redigit decided to branch off from SMBX and close the original forums.
Then the Nintendo cease-and-desist happened and Redigit was forced to shut down supermariobrothers.org.

Someone mentioned the "High SMBX Coucil" as a part of SMBX's history once on the IRC. Could someone explain to me what exactly this group is?

High SMBX Council is a thing that happened, but noting it in our history is probably validating the notion that it was anything significant. I barely paid attention, mostly because the whole thing reeked of attention-seeking. If you must know, they were hackers/botnet users/phishers... any of the three or any combination of the three. I don't even.
Joey wrote:We also can't forget about this gem. (read the first post then skip to page 11 if you don't want to read the whole thing)
Are you sure it's not better for us all to just put that whole thing behind us?
I can sum the answer to this thread in a sentence:
SMBX began because there was nary anything like it, and Redigit gazed unto this void, and said, "This will not do."

It was actually just phishing miche never could hack anything. Like when they made the exact same thing like Joey had and called it tk. Or when people clicked on the random pms their got which had their password leaked which resulted into them getting access into them and posting stuff like Gore and other shit.
But yep as you said it was attention-seeking as a lot of people here gave them the attention and didn't stop to ignore them.
There was this project called solarflare which never happened though as it was actually just a lie made up by michel mostly. The plan was to take down Joeys forum which later lead into take down every existing smbx forum.
And yes some people still talk to michel even though they know what kind of deep shit he does and so. No offense to those but i wouldn't really want to be friend of someone who enjoys posting gore stuff on the web.

A group the spammed this place for a couple months. Biggest accomplishments were phishing people, and spamming a lot.
It's not really SMBX history, just bullshit on this forum that came and went.

I love how Pseudo's post on the first page just sounds like a war documentary or something. So many things happening at once, it's really interesting and even suspenseful.
I was part of Knux' forums back then, but didn't notice anything out of the ordinary.

Idk why people should be butthurt over that. I mean it might be ur opinion if you think that terraria is a ripoff of minecraft even tho it is different from how it plays, weapons, bosses, enemies.
I mean smbx is a ripoff of itself also.

SMBX is a ripoff of Super Mario World, Super Mario Bros 3, Super Mario Bros 2(japanese and american) and Super Mario Bros, which are ripoffs of one another.

With smbx Redigit could never earn money for his latter life. Therefore it was his choice and he actually wanted to abandon smbx anyway to make something he could profit.
