Level Design and Ideas

Postby MarioHacker » Fri Dec 25, 2015 8:29 pm

I have noticed that a fair amount of levels posted here are way too similar. They always seem to be really long-winded and just too "general". If you want to have a clearer idea of what I'm talking about, look at Super Mario World and how it's level has its own unique theme. Levels are short, but they are challenging and always have something that sets them out from the other levels of the game. In Super Mario Bros. X levels, they are generally just happy green hills with goombas and koopas, question blocks and coins. I think it would be cooler if levels tried to do something unique and cool with an enemies and carried that idea through the entire level. For example, in Super Mario World, in Yoshi's Island 1, the game uses Banzai Bills and Rexes as the main idea of a level. That is already unique in itself, because not every other level uses the same sets of enemies. They use this same enemy set until the end of the level, which makes the level consistent and nice. However, for the case of many levels posted here, the set of enemies always seem to be changing and the design isn't very different from every other level we see here. That's not very interesting to see.

I may be just rambling or uttering complete nonsense, but this is what I think. I don't think anyone else understands the way I feel, but that's okay.
