How do i edit the black area outside of the level?
I cant add a background to it, and i cant add objects to
the area, without them blinking and saying i can't place
them there.

You can create a larger section under the Level Settings selection, press the right, left up or down button there to do it. Welcome to the forums!

Under Level Settings, click Left, Right, Top, or Bottom depending on which direction you want to extend the level. Then click in the gray area to extend the level in that direction.

Is there a way to zoom out by any chance?

Not in the classic SMBX editor, but in PGE (another SMBX editor) you can. I'd highly recommend getting it.
