SMBX Survey

If you're a newer member, you've been asked this on the registration page however older members who haven't updated their profile have not. I'd like to push this survey for both new and old members alike to keep track of where most of the traffic here is coming from, put a number on it, and expand upon it later as guidance for further suggestions in this forum. This is also for personal interest to see how well the response size is, for future polls I'd like to push. The survey is hosted on StrawPoll here: https://strawpoll.me/6201169/

So you want to know from what most people come into here?
I don't really think how this would work oit as i am sure that 99% lie aboit it anyway. So you will never know from where most came into here.

Why would anyone lie? Where did that 99% come from?

I voted other.

MarioMaster7771 and I were on the SMF Xat chat around mid 2013. He linked a video of SMBX, and I asked him what editor it was. We then went to private chat and he told me about SMBX. Later on, I joined Knux's forum.

I guess you could say it was from a video, but 7 told me more about it via private chat. If he didn't, I probably wouldn't have bothered to check it out, so I'd probably pick "A friend told me about SMBX" over "Google Search".

Oops, thought it was SMBX itself, not the forums. Then I would have voted Other on the poll.
I don't know how I found out about it, but I knew it was there. I created a forum account, made some noobish posts, and then I ignored SMBX for a while. Now, I play SMBX and browse the forums.

I picked other.

It was a PM about a then-newer version of SMBX, version 1.3.0.1. I had 1.3.0 at the time, and the link to the new one happened to be on this site.

Unfortunately, I can't link the video where I originally found out about SMBX itself, as the YouTube account was suspended in mid-2011.

I got to SMBX via YouTube that was made by @redigit back then when 1.1 was on work where Yoshis and Zelda 2 stuff were added. Unfortunately these videos got deleted so I can't get to 'em anymore.

The poll is how you found this website, not previous forums or SMBX versions.

Then from the previous forums (specifically, Knux's Forums) since there was a link that lead me to this website right here for the first time.

oops

y'all should probably include the word forums lol

In that case, I randomly thought of SMBX again one day. I went to Knux's forum only to see it was dead, so upon asking some people, I found this place.

I was referring to the site including the forums.

I started with SMBX 1.2, and I think there were only three public episodes back then. I took a break from it, but got back in after Raocow started. By that point, I think there were only six public episodes. In mid-2012, I found many episodes on a Google archive (and one on RMN) before Knux forum became the place to go. NSMBX was also up, but I remember it didn't have a single complete episode the first time I looked.

Suddenly, the Knux forum became all stick and circle figures, and I almost gave up on SMBX before finding episodes here. Nearly a year later, I created an account at this forum.

There were more episodes made than just the defaults when SMBX 1.2 was released. There were only three/four defaults back then though; The Invasion/2, The Princess Cliche (and the updated version), and The Great Castle Adventure. Other people had definitely released completed episodes, though.

Hmm. I remember looking for episodes back in late 2011 and having no luck outside the other six (those four, The Great Empire, and one more but I don't remember which). They must have been posted on the Google site I looked at, but now I can't find that site anymore. Not like it matters much anymore, as I'm sure most of those links are expired, and 1/4 of them were from the late MegaUpload anyway.

Back in 2011ish (when SMBX was still in version 1.2) I used to play the flash games on this website a lot, when the website still had them. I found SMBX and downloaded it because I was obsessed with Mario at the time and I've always been interested in level design. Plus romhacking was way too complicated ;A;

I was a complete noob at first (I didn't know how to make the screen scroll, so my first levels were just a bunch of rooms connected by doors and pipes. I actually found out how to scroll the screen completely by accident XD) but I'd say I've improved since then 8)

If you're wondering how I joined the forums, it's actually a REALLY odd story.

I was in a chat room on Pokemon Showdown, and we somehow got into a discussion about Yoshis. So someone in the chat said "GRAY YOSHI IS BEST YOSHI." I PMed him and asked him if he played SMBX (since that's the only game with gray Yoshis) and he said yes. Then he told me about the forums, I made my account, and...here I am :P

Unfortunately I forgot the guy's username :( I think it was Luigiman240 or something like that.

Turtwig: Gray Yoshis aren't in SMBX though? Or am I forgetting something?

Anyhow if we're telling the story of how we joined the forums here, back in 2009 I was a lurker on MFGG. SMBX version 1.1 was uploaded there around August or September and I loved it, and then I found supermariobrothers.org through the credits or something.

You are forgetting something, as they are in the game, and they have the powers of Blue, Red, and Yellow Yoshis.

That's Black Yoshi, though.

Oh, I suppose Turtwig and I probably mistook Black Yoshi for Gray Yoshi.

I'm pretty sure it was officially described as Black Yoshi back in the day, and it has a similar look to Black Yoshi from the Yoshi's Island games.

It is pretty much gray though, I admit.
