[ALPHA] TerrariaSyncUtil - Now accepting testing candidates!

In short, TerrariaSyncUtil is my new programming project. Because you know, I can't just work on one. This post is here to answer some questions you may have about this.

First and foremost, what even is it?

TerrariaSyncUtil, or Terraria Sync Utility, is my new project that I have recently undergone. Basically, you hook it up to your Dropbox and it will sync your Terraria saves (*.wld files and *.plr files). The goal will be for it do this automatically or manually (depending on your preference) and for it to be as seamless as possible. This is especially handy for people like myself who go between 2 houses and seeing as how Terraria doesn't support Steam save sync, this is a viable idea.

Technical details, now!

TerrariaSyncUtil is currently being coded in C# with the .NET Framework 4.0 behind it. However, I have chosen to NOT make this project open source for my own reasons (this may change later down the road). It also hooks up to your Dropbox to provide the syncing service.

System Requirements?

This is hard to say right now, ALOT of testing will be put into this to figure out how far back or how far forward we can get this thing to work on. I currently run Windows 7 x64 but I also have another computer laying around running Windows XP x32. I'll need help getting other versions of windows up and running. I'm going to shoot and say that any computer that can run Terraria can run this.

OS: Windows XP, Vista, Win 7
Processor: 1.6 Ghz
Memory: 1.5GB
Hard Disk Space: 200MB
Video Card: 128mb Video Memory, capable of Shader Model 1.1
(XNA Card Compatability List)
DirectX: 9.0c or Greater

OLD: It's hard for me to post a pic right now as it is still in very early development. As of right now though, this is a super early development screenshot

What's going to happen to SMBXEpisodeManager?

I'm still going to update it so don't worry. Just because I'm trying to move away from Visual Basic doesn't mean I'm not going to forget all of it (there's alot of similarities in the .NET schemes anyways). Plus, being as the episode manager is open source, if need be someone can fork it and continue to maintain it anyway. Do not worry!

How can I beta/alpha test?

This is a big one that some people are going to be interested in. But of course, there's going to be some requirements. First of all, lemme list all of the OSes I'm going to need help testing.
  • Windows XP x32
    Windows XP x64
    Windows Vista x32
    Windows Vista x64
    Windows 7 x32
    Windows 7 x64
    Windows 8 x32
    Windows 8 x64
If you don't know what OS you use or what an x64 or x86/x32 is, you should probably just stop reading now. I am going to accept up to two people for each OS (eg, up to 2 people can debug Windows XP x32 and 2 for Windows XP x64, not 2 for XP in general). Please contact me via PM on this forum to apply.

When submitting bugs, I am going to need ALOT more than just this
Spoiler: show

I'm going to need all of this:
  • *Steps needed to reproduce this error
*The "unhandled exception" .NET error details, if that's what the error is
    *OS/Full System Specs
    *Screenshot of the Error
I know it sounds like alot but instead of having the testing go as the program is released like I did with the episode manager I wanna make sure this is as perfect as possible.

I'm here posting a small bump, this project is going to be my primary focus for some time so I really want some input/testers for it.

All of the development updates are going to be hosted on my forums but i am going to be active on this topic answering questions and stuff. So here's a link to the latest development update (working on b0.0.2.0): http://forums.smbxepisodes.tk/topic20.html
And the subforum to monitor it: http://forums.smbxepisodes.tk/forum29.html

I'm going to unlock the dev forums for topic replies don't worry.

Enjoy,

Mike
