Most sites usually have the logo of the social media sites they're on that links to their pages. These could go in the white box at the top next to the chat link.

I guess it'd be good for those unfamiliar with the pages.

However, it would just cause clutter in the navigation area. But sure they could be added. Even though people could just look them up on their own.

And I also doubt they're updated at all.

It'd be to get rid of the thread the thread for it that isn't getting any intention, and therefore give it enough attention so that they would be updated more often.

Well yeah, the pages have to be updated or else the social links would be pretty pointless.
