Well I think I can safely say I’m improving. I’m starting to get a much better positive/negative feedback ratio and I’d like to thank you all for helping me improve and giving me feedback. I’d like to thank HenryRichard for level design tips, Enjl for helping me with my graphics and for being a good friend who doesn’t sugar coat things, and PixelPest and all the rest of you for your feedback.

As a reward for your amazingness, I’m going to release the sunsand tileset! :D Image

very nicely done. The texture is very nice and the harmony is well done. I can definitely see people using this in the future.

The tileset is very noisy. Why would you use a million colours?

Thank you! Oh yeah, you're another of the people I specifically wanted to thank but I couldn't remember your name! :P yeah I've been trying to take your suggestions to improve.

Imagine you wanted to recolour it now.

just apply a hue and saturate it until it looks good lol, it's not that hard.

That doesn't always work. For example if you apply shading based on a change in hue. You'd have to S T R E T C H the hue from lightest to darkest colour, which would be easier if you, say, had 5 total.

Example of me trying to apply a hue shift from lime to teal (note the stray noise):

I still find it to be easier than manually recoloring. It's a lot more efficient, than searching for colors and then applying them imo
As for your example, that can be easily fixed with desaturation and lowering the contrast. I find that lowering the contrast helps with the noise.

I prefer using Magic Wand to select my colours rather than BoxSelect. Of course this doesn't work if there are a million colours and the dark ones are barely different from the bright ones. Check my previous post.

yeah I see your point, but it can still be an easy fix as far as the noise and the colors. Oh well, we all have different ways of making graphics. As long as everything works.

I'm just sharing the general "rule" in sprite art that more colours = worse. If you showed this to some professional spritist, they'd probably get a heart attack because it can be done with like 4 colours.

There are some games that use more than 4 colors in their sprites such as SPP, Metal Slug, etc. In his case, I can understand your reason as it wasn't necessarily intended to be HD (at least not to my knowledge), but still, there are plenty of professional games out there that involve sprite art which use more than 4 colors.

Ah well, let's end this excourse on colouring here.

My only problem with this is the fact that there are mask errors on practically every tile.

it's better to know about the mistake than have it in there and have it end up looking weird lol
