This is my first topic, so i don't know if this topic counts in this forum page. Anyways, SMBX is a game that is well-known for its fans or who use it. But, how to make it more famous ? One of them is, using Instagram.
Yeah, Instagram, i guess that's a good app for who has iphone/android or etc. to promote their Episodes and Mario fans on Instagram hear of these, they'll join this forum, and they'll play these good episodes. So, it'll get much more populated. What do you think ? Tell me your opinions.

Nah, I actually checked #smbx hashtag on Instagram once out of boredom and it had really, really few posts. I don't think it's going to draw much attention.

Yeah, i checked as well. But, it doesn't mean it can't get attention. If Mario Fans hear that there's such a program to make these games with ease, with such fans and graphics, i'm sure they'll like it. Because SMBX can grow its population more by joining social apps such as Insta. Admins can tell if they'd like to do it or not, but currently, it's just an idea. (:

As much as a large audience Instagram has, I find it would be difficult to promote an episode there (there is the possibility of looking at your account/pictures online, but you would be limited in terms of the size of screenshots since Instagram's max cropping is more of a perfect square, and viewing those images especially on mobile phones would be small, and sometimes users can miss out on the detail - at least I think that).

But yes, as the others have said before, SMBX isn't popular among Instagram users. It could be, but extra effort would have to be taken into account for. Your best bet for promoting an episode would be a blog or Youtube, and even the forums here. Just make sure you're promoting your episode within the actual topic you made on your project.

Oh, i see, i guess you're right. There was about 20 tags of SMBX when i checked recently. Well, i might use youtube for gameplay videos or trailers. As well as this forum has number of projects that are in development, so i'm okay with it. But there could be a few Mario Fans who are really into this maybe. Even thought SMBX official insta might not get greenlighted, is it okay i use an account for promoting my episode or levels there ?

Most users on Instagram find it as a place to show or share their inner photographic skills. I wouldn't call SMBX screenshots, high-quality, sorry. I'm sure you might get some attention if you promote your episode there, but it would probably be out of streak of luck. Users there do pay attention to detail and high quality photos, maybe if you get the oppurtunity for other gamers to follow you, they might be interested in SMBX, because yes I have seen many gamers on there. If you can somehow can get there attention than I say yes, you might be able to successfully promote your episode there. If not, you might only be able to get a few likes at the minimum. I for one use Instagram to share high-quality pictures from my phone or iPod. Try it out though, who knows, it might work.

Instragram may not be a good app to use to promote it, but what about tumblr? We could very well start up a smbxgame.com tumblr dashboard, where users submit various screenshots of their levels/grpahics and the tumblr host uploads them..

Yeah, it'd be cool. About tumblr, even a gameplay footage or trailer would be cool to upload. But you know, Instagram is now a famous app where a lot of people have iphones (or androids, etc.) and they use it. I know it could be wrong app to use, but it doesn't mean we can't start somehow, so SMBX will be famous there one day if things worked well. However, a first try isn't bad thing at all, so along with all SMBX fans, there can be Mario fans who don't know much about SMBX, but they love Mario universe. But still, besides possible Insta, Tumblr could be cool.

@Shade: Yes, i know what you mean. There were a few posts about SMBX, though insta might not be bad to promote the game to people who love Mario, but they don't know the existance of SMBX, a program which makes Mario games with ease.

Why would we promote it on an APPLE IPHONE if it can only be easily played on a WINDOWS COMPUTER?

Anyway, I don't think promoting episodes on Instagram would be that useful.
I think something like YouTube would be better. Maybe on the official SMBX channel once it has launched. Maybe =P

That sounds incredibly stereotypical. Also, instagram is for all smart phones not just iPhones.

And to answer the first post, unless you were a popular person on instagram then I wouldn't really advertise SMBX stuff there since you won't really go anywhere

You don't need to be an apple fanboy just to have an iPhone you know. Instagram is also available on ANY smart phone to my knowledge, so I dunno why you're making such an issue about it. I guess you just really like complaining, don't ya?

Well if Windows phones/tablets were more popular, we wouldn't have this issue.

The thing is, for what it is SMBX is still a very powerful tool, even though it's not mobile friendly. We could use social media to broaden our user base to introduce new people to SMBx, even if those mobile platforms don't support it

I mean, we can introduce SMBX or our episodes/levels to the gamers or Mario fans who don't know much about SMBX, and they'll get interested to get this program, and the SMBX community will get much more people and support. Well, there is youtube, tumblr, or even twitter, but apps like Instagram or any apps on Mobile devices are good ways to promote not only our episodes, but SMBX itself (no matter how it is unpopular there).

That's like saying it's "backwards" to advertise Bethesda games on Valve software (steam).
I'm a PC gamer and I use an iPhone which I have no plans of getting rid of anytime soon.

But to contribute to the topic, I feel that Instagram is completely useless in advertising anything SMBX related. I just don't think it could work at all.

Where you promote it doesn't matter as long as you're promoting it to PC users. Which it would be.
