SMBX Custom Level: Freighting Ship

A lovely level designed by yours truly. The level was initially designed in early 2013, and was to be a sequel to my ever-so-famous Cargo Ship level. Due ot the sheer size of Cargo Ship though, this isn't a direct sequel. But credits go to the RY Graphics Pack, Valtteri, and myself.

The video version of this level is obviously slightly different from the version in the download. During the play-test and recording, I noticed some bugs I ignored before and fixed them.
There was going to be a lot of extra content to this level, such as an awesome side-scrolling segment with a special scuba-ship. And even a moment of crawling up the crow's nest underwater. But alas restrictions and length of the level itself kept me from exercising my ideas.

Sorry, but I really considered this unbeatable. I just downloaded it and was originally going to play it today and review it in the next few days, but got stuck after I talked to B.K. I was clueless on where to go, and just quit. Also, the airship background pieces were so confusing, I had no idea where I was going. I would recolor them much more black, since I couldn't tell the difference between fake ones or real ones.
I might watch the video for help, but no promises that I am able to get a review in.

I am shocked that you of all people would find this unbeatable. The level's theme was a mix of Ghost and Ship, so it was designed to deceive. I had recolored versions of those BGOs, but I hated any type of recolor that was implemented. I preferred the level to fake the player, but it is in no way unbeatable. My style deals more on making the player think and pay attention to their surroundings, rather than give them a clear-cut path. The fact you made it into the ship itself shows you are familiar with my method of faking the player. My hint, look for those same broken airship parts to proceed.

Hey I remember that hole fish from a Spongebob game and Valtteri's graphics pack! Does it make the same noise as in the Spongebob game? That game was a huge part of my childhood so I was wondering.

Sadly no, adding sounds like that would be far too time consuming and would require me to force players to alter ingame sound files.

I didn't mean I made it onto ship, I was in section three I believe swimming in the ship. I am certainly not used to your style or in any way familiar with your method of faking the player, simply due to me never playing one of your levels before.

OK, so even I know that review was bad. This level deserves better, therefore on special clauses, I'm going to review this level another time. The problem I had was I started in a totally different area (9:26 on Bossedits video)

Was that extremely necessary? You could have left them as-is instead of deleting half a thread because you gave an awful review. You should have gone into the level judging job knowing what you were doing instead of just winging it.

GhostHawk gave me the go ahead. I'm not winging anything. Stop bringing your drama onto the board. Anyways, I did manage to finish the level this time, so we will have a better review.

Graphics: 6/10

So, I actually had to replace the start location to the proper spot, with that I got to see the other bit of graphics I didn't get to see. I like how smooth the background outside flows with the reefing. The rest of the ship, however the same.. I still found it a bit confusing, however not as much, since I was able to properly go through it.

Enemies/Placement: 6/10

Since I was able to finish the level and look at everything properly this time, I still don't nessecerily agree with the koopas fitting in with the theme of the level, the lotuses were tricky, but didn't feel right either... though I guess I got over that as it was fun to dodge the lava bits, and gave a bit of difficulty. The thwomp in the same room is still misplaced, I think you could move it an inch over to the right and it would be better. The boss was something different, I have to say I wasn't expecting it to be so easy. Perhaps you could try to add a bit more difficulty on that.

Style/Aesthetics: 5/10

I'm still confused a little bit on this. As well, I thought the level was too square. Perhaps adding more slopes would fix that up. Other than that, I liked the level thoroughly and thought it was quite interesting. However parts of the ship, like that bomb on the first room didn't make sense and wasn't really needed. Other than that, good job.

Items/.etc: 8/10

I actually came to like your item placement for the level. You spread the items quite nicely, however the free 1up was kind of off putting, considering 1ups shouldn't usually be handed out for free unless hidden. As well some of the Mushrooms that just floated through the level were kinda weird, however the items otherwise were really good.

Overall: 6.25/10

Well, the fact that I actually beat the level helps so I got to grasp the entire feel for the level, which made it all the more better. I can say this level deserves the rating it has now, I apologize for the earlier review. I actually came to like the level, the idea was cool. I loved the music, it was catchy. The boss was unique as well, however could be harder. Well done. Lets see more levels from you, shall we?

See, this is all I wanted. Though I didn't know the spawnpoint was screwed up...ya think I would've caught it or someone would've told me by now. As for the koopas and thwomps, I cant recall putting either in the level. But like I said ill give it a look once my cpu stops raping itself.

sorry for the bump, but the level was enjoyable, I played as Mario and Rosalina and found a glitch in the level after I recorded it witch is half shown in bossedit8's video, I am sure you can time a shell jump to a degree to skip increasing the water level! My playthrough will be uploaded in an hour, and I will edit it into my post!

The "&feature=youtu.be" what you added up there is not necessary. If you add it by accident you pretty much have to remove it in order to make that Video work prober on your message.

I did not even notice it til after I beat the level twice on camera!

OKAY! Now the level is fixed. Not sure how I missed that error or how I didnt fix it yet, but its all good.
