What is Lua used for in this level? Is it just a timer, etc. that you could play the level without or does it serve an important purpose in the overall gameplay experience?

It switches you to bomb peach automatically.

Mario Maker Release Date Celebration Level by Enjl - Review
Atmosphere and Presentation
For the most part, this level used NES SMB1's aesthetics, and while it wasn't anything special, those parts looked decent. However, then there was the SMB3 airship piece which just looked completely different and really clashed. While Peach doesn't really fit either, I usually feel like clashing player characters aren't that bad.
There was no music though, and for the most part you're just flying through the empty sky. Additionally, the Koopa Paratroopas change style if you jump on them.
As such, Atmoshphere and Presentation gets a
1/10
Design and Gameplay (counts double)
This level starts off pretty normal, but then you have to ride an SMB3 Airship Piece and spam Peach bombs at incoming Paratroopas. This part is really monotone, and while there is some progression later with homing Paratroopas, the fact that you're unable to throw bombs to the left while riding the Airship Piece is quite inconvenient. Lastly, you have to bomb down two towers (woah there), and it's mostly quite monotone, too. Additionally, you can get your Airship Piece stuck in them quite easily, forcing you to restart the level. LunaLua is used to make you able to throw bombs every frame and change your character to Bomb Peach at the beginning, and while the spamming does make things a lot easier, it also makes it quite monotone.
Because of that, Gameplay and Design gets a
1.5/10
Verdict
This level is barely fun and quite monotone. I didn't really enjoy it, and it wasn't too pretty to look at either.
As such, my verdict for this level is
1.33/10

Wow that's more than I expected for a 9/11 level.
