A Forest of Revolt

This level does not conclude any custom graphics so it looks more like a poor level edited in SMBX v1.1.2 five years ago than a well-designed one in this 'custom' age.
However, I still want to have a try to make a level with no custom GFXs to see how far it can go and whether the creativity will be limited without using extra graphics.
Graphics from multiple Mario games may have to be used to increase elements in one section. It may looks kind of weird today, though, Redigit's early episodes like The Invasion had set an example and you can see he is really a master of making pure levels (also he made levels that are 'impure' afterwards).
I am not confident with this level because I still think pure levels are hard to receive high reputation. But finally I decided to post it. I am sorry if you do not enjoy yourself playing and think this totally wastes your time.
This level is released to show disgust and dissatisfaction with someone bumptious out of this forum while the whole level is just normal. Nothing special happens when you get further. So that is it.

Judging from the screen, there's a cutoff where the water is. Also, you should add more BGOs.

Also there's more cutoffs, counting as missing grass tiles next to cement blocks.

If you fall into the water in the screenshot, it does not look like it's possible to get out. Not as big an issue as the cutoff, but it still bugs me when this happens. It actually just recently happened to me in another Mario game.

My Review:
This highly linear level was really, really bad. It had no BGOs (excluding the water) and was full of clash. The NPCs were one of the worst parts of the level. They were so clustered and the immense amount of SMB3 special blocks often made it difficult for the player to jump over them. The NPCs also clashed a lot, and the Pokeys did not fit the level. Another problem with this level was the layout. As I mentioned before it was extremely clustered at most times, but at other times it was very bland. There were also only two power-ups in the level, making it extremely difficult and not at all fun to play. The red coins also served no purpose other than making the level look even worse. There was also a ton of cutoff, including blocks missing from slopes, edge blocks missing by the water, and the floor of the boss battle was not built correctly and the whole thing was cutoff. There were also several places in the level that were difficult, especially as Mario, because it was built so poorly that you had to lure a nipper into the area, wait for it to jump, and then spin jump off it to get to the next area. There were also parts where the player was trapped and forced to commit suicide if they missed a platform, etc. The blocks also often clashed between SMB3 and SMW. The boss at the end was also completely unfitting and boring. You enter through a pair of red doors, and end up in a ghost house that had no decoration or NPCs, other than the Big Boo boss, which was super easy to defeat, as there were no other obstacles and the blocks were all around you. Overall, this level was poorly designed, contained a lot of cutoff and clustered NPCs, no BGOs, and so few power-ups that it was highly difficult but completely unenjoyable.
Overall: 1/10

Atmosphere and Presentation

Honestly, this level wasn't very pleasing to look at. Visually, everything in this level looked the same: SMW Ground with SMW Cement Blocks and SMB3 Water. There wasn't really much different, aside from the boss. While there was some effort put into making the layout look interesting, for the most part that wasn't too successful as most of those ideas are repeated over and over during a certain area and then never used again, like these formations:

While the clashing didn't look too terrible, I don't get why you used red coins throughout the level. Additionally, there was cutoff on the 2x1 slopes.
The music was just the vanilla SMW music, and while it wasn't terrible, it was kinda underwhelming.

As such, Atmoshphere and Presentation gets a

1/10

Design and Gameplay (counts double)

Honestly, I didn't have fun while playing this level. First up, there's some design flaws like
Spoiler: show

empty areas,

Image

parts where you can get stuck

Image

and enemy spam.
Additionally, aside from a few gimmick sections, this level felt really forgettable. Additionally, none of the gimmicks were really fleshed out and were rarely used more than once. As such, there wasn't really any sense of development in this level. It didn't really feel coherent, it was just gimmick after gimmick connected by bland areas.
Then there was
Spoiler: show

this part, where you were unable to progress once you failed the jump.

Image

In this area, the easiest way to go is actually through the water. This is contradictory design, as staying on the top part means harder platforming, but there's also enemies all over the place. That means that the player never has a reason to go the top path.
The boss was pretty much just a copypaste from the SMW Big Boo boss, and didn't really fit in with the rest of the level.
Because of that, Gameplay and Design gets a

0.5/10

Verdict

This level wasn't exciting to look at and not fun to play. You should try settling on one gimmick and developing it, as well as making the level prettier to look at.
As such, my verdict for this level is

0.67/10
