Do I really need to buy a WinRAR license?

I've had WinRAR for about four years now, and after 30 days the program started notifying me that I need to either buy a WinRAR license, or uninstall it from my computer. However, I just close down the box and everything works normally. I can still extract .RAR files even though I've been warned several times that I've overstayed the trial and need to get a license, but the program just bugs me about it and doesn't deny access to it at all.
However, I'm now a little bit worried that by overstaying the trial period, I'm committing an offense and someone is bound to find out, and then I'm going to get prosecuted for it, and forced to uninstall WinRAR or either buy a license. Is the notification that appears saying I have to get a license just to scare people, or is this serious and I'll get prosecuted if I don't uninstall WinRAR?

I know this isn't relevant to the topic as much but I use 7zip and that can extract RAR files and also compress to 7z files so that solves my issue.
About the license, I heard that once it bypasses the time you can still use it but I'm not entirely sure though since I never even tried by myself.

Yes, if those windows about getting it piss you so much. It's pretty much useless, anyway.

100% agreeing with bossedit8.
Why use a program that has a trial period when there's a perfectly Open-source program that can extract .RAR | .zip | .gz | and others?
7zip is gratefully better.

I thought it was funny to close the window and illegally use WinRAR, but eventually I had to pay for each time I closed the box out (it's logged) on top of the price. So if I were you I'd pay it BEFORE they notice and make you pay extra, so you don't have any more trouble in the future and save money.

7zip is in fact better in compression performance the last time I checked.
