Usually the free stuff comes with a "demo"(or something for a tryout), then is basically pay for the full version. Though there are some free stuff without any sort of paying(aside from malicious softwares. Just be careful as not all stuff are safe). For paid software... They give in sometimes the full experience, but of course, pay money. Some softwares even bring in PART of it even after paying... Free softwares can be interesting to try out at least either for when you don't have money or if you're just feeling bored. Paid softwares is more for your interest...

My opinion.

I mostly prefer free software, but I have no problem paying for some nice software if the price isn't too outrageous. I used to pirate a lot of games and stuff, but it's been years since I did now.

I prefer free stuff, because I can't afford lots of stuff. And I don't mean pirated stuff as free stuff, only free stuff in a legal way. (well, I pirate some stuff by the way but my computer isn't full of pirated games or cracks)

It doesn't really matter if it's free or paid. What matters is if the software is "free" as in free beer or "free" as in freedom.
