Mine was from downloading a ton of games and nearly all of them came with a virus and the only thing i heard EVERY TIME i got on my computer was avast:"threat has been detectedthreat has been detectedthreat has been detected" all day...

A weird fake Yahoo thing that puts ads on your homepage and deliberately chooses the ones nobody would ever click with horrible pictures of skin diseases and shit. Not because it did anything bad, I got it off my computer in five minutes, but because of the horrible pictures of skin diseases and shit. And once I had a skin infection on my chin. But that's not a computer virus.

Bundespolizeivirus.
A virus that made you think your government has found a collection of child porn or some other shit on your computer and you have to pay a lot to remove it by itself or else 'the police will come and get you.'
Was a pain in the ass to remove it, cuz I actually had to spend my time doing something else than neeting until the virus was removed. *shudders*

Another bad one was a time my computer got spammed with gay ads. But I think that's adware and not a virus?

SAME! It happened to me a few years back, and I can't remember how long my computer had the virus; it was many months, I can tell you that much. I' gotten a fair share of viruses as a kid back then, but nothing was as vicious as the Bundespolizeivirus.

Some year ago, i got a virus on a mac called ``mac keeper`` and it pretend to ``clean`` your computer; but do you know what it REALY do?
It sucks the energy of your computer, like litteraly and it pretend its because you have a lot of shit on your coputer needing to be cleaned!
This softwear is a scam, DONT download it, NEVER download it, even if you see good critics on internet.

I don't know anything about CamStudio specifically, but it's unreasonable to generalize about all gratis programs based on it. It could be that the links to download CamStudio binaries either have been hijacked to point to some trojan horse, or that the CamStudio binary just contains malware. If that's the case, you can download the CamStudio source code and compile it yourself. It looks like this is the appropriate link for that:

I think the advice that you should go by, rather than "not free to download", is to only get pre-compiled software from trusted sources. Just because someone asks for your credit card information before giving you something doesn't necessarily mean that person is trustworthy, and just because someone doesn't ask for anything in return for a copy of a program doesn't mean that person is untrustworthy. A lot of the time, people just don't charge money for a program because they developed it for motives other than profit.

There was a virus I got a few years ago on one of my old computers(windows xp)from an ad on starfall.com . My grandpa downloaded something along the lines of a "PC Help Assistant". He talked with this person on the phone, I could hear that he had an Indian accent, and immediately knew that it was a scam. The man said that there was nothing he could do and hung up. My PC was even slower, taking around 5 minutes just to load Google, and the PC Help Assistant Extension(yes, chrome) was annoyingly on the search bar.

I remember watching Vinesauce Joel's Windows 7 destruction stream, and near the end, he mentioned this virus that sent you to random porn sites and laughed at you if you messed with the time settings on your computer.

Porn viruses are scary enough (especially if you accidentally download them onto a family computer), but a virus that LAUGHS at you? Geez.

I deftinently(i dunno how to spell it) don't like most of the virus that I've encountered. My Windows Defender keeps blocking when I tried to download like SMBX 1.4.3 Patch 6 where there's a virus in there. I really hate a trojan virus.
