So I bought a new computer (Well not really I but that's besides the point) and i got SMBX on it and for some reason it lags like crazy, gives slowdown without turning frameskip off and skipping frames (It's the same with both frameskip on or off)...

The wierdest thing is, my current new computer is a lot better than my old one on which SMBX didn't ever lag

(If you're curious about the computer specs i'll lay them down here).
64bit computer
8 GB of ram
1 TB of memory
1 GB NVidia Graphics Card
Windows 7
(That should be all that's important... I'll try to check something else if i'm asked)

Right click the SMBX exe and run with your Nvidia Graphics card instead of your integrated card. (If you have one that is.). This solved the lag issue with me. (I have the same specs as you.)

I don't seem to have the option to run with my Nvidia Graphics Card. Unless i'm supposed to click something in the right click menu first

Then I guess you only have the nvidia card. All I can suggest is set SMBX to run at a higher priority (via taskmanager).

It seems to be running even slower now (Also when i turn on the framerate code it says it's at a constant 65 frames per second)

Try this: right-click SMBX, then go to "Properties." Go to the "Compatibility" tab, and there should be a drop-down box labeled something like "Run in Compatibility Mode." Then, just select whichever version of Windows your old computer is, and click "Apply."

If that doesn't work, (and I know this isn't anywhere near a permanent or reliable fix), try typing speeddemon in SMBX.

The windows on both computers is the same windows...

That's really weird. Does this new computer have any programs that run in the background? Try opening Task Manager (ctrl+alt+delete), then click "more details." You may need to uninstall some programs.

If all else fails, maybe reinstalling SMBX would work?

What's your processor? Do you have any CPU intense apps like antivirus running? All of your Windows updates installed? Graphics drivers latest?

I think i just figured out the problem... I have Avast antivirus and that is running in the background. So that MIGHT be the problem.

About my processor i'm not sure and for windows updates i'm pretty sure that they're installed aswell as the latest graphics drivers.

Also, if i haven't mentioned. SMBX is the only game that lags on the computer...

Avast is the destroyer. Uninstall it while you still can.

That probably IS from Avast. Tbh Avast sucks up resources, then again any antivirus does. I really advise switching to this

To be exact, I am in the exact same boat, except I am not allowed to have anti-virus on my computer except advast! (My computer is old and bad any way)

Luigifan but not everyone can be a computer wiz like you who knows exactly how to deal with viruses. I'd rather have a good antivirus than a fucked up pc lol

Agreed. I suggest Avira maybe, or if you're able to spend some money buy yourself a Kaspersky license. I use Kaspersky myself and I'm pretty satisfied with it.

I have Avast and I didn't gain any troubles so far and I also get used to the whole function as of what it provides.


So yeah, background progressing will gain lag depends of how your PC specs and informations are... I even had issues on my tower Windows XP since every single time SMBX has been booted up, it's too slow which is annoying.

I got rid off Avast but SMBX still lags. I get the feeling that this computer doesn't like the marios
