My goal is to make a filter that can make different patterns and variations seamlessly in the style of Super Mario.

I think that would be an awesome idea and very convenient to make tilesets on the fly.

Plus another cool thing is they can be rendered at any resolution. So the possibilities are indeed endless.

Looks like an excessively complicated recolouring software.

It does more than just color. It makes gradients, shapes, noises, and blends. It's like painting without a brush.

yeeeeaaaaaah I'm sticking to paint.net. This looks pretty complicated. I find paint.net to be more user friendly.

No need to make assumptions if you've never used the software. I'm not even trying to compare it with Paint.net or Photoshop (which I also use). I was just throwing it out there if someone ever thought about using it.

Filter Forge is a very good program. Are you people too skurred to learn a new thing? Its not that difficult to use either. Now, being good at it is a different story. My man here can make anything on there and it never seizes to amaze me. The best I can do is make bricks or clouds.

Nop. Learned Unity Engine and Photoshop just last week. It's just that this software seems redundant.

Where did you learn Photoshop? I could use some tutorials.

A workshop at a university about game design, game arts and programming. Like hell I'll spend 200€ for a Photoshop subscription.

BTW good job comparing freeware with expensive software there.

I got photoshop on my computer for free. I found a crack for it. I mainly use it for video thumbnails though.
