Smartphones & Handsets

Postby Raster » Wed Feb 05, 2014 1:54 pm

What smartphone do you use/like?

I used a Nokia E66 for a while, then switched to an iPhone 4s. I liked the Nokia a lot because it had all the features I needed plus a lot more. The build quality was excellent. The handset felt sturdy and premium. The camera was great and so was the battery life. Unfortunately, the phone broke after a few months of use. The iPhone was alright, though I didn't like the limits of the OS. When I upgraded to iOS 7, the phone was basically lagging to death. It was so slow I decided to sell it and now I'm looking for a WP8 phone.

I used iPhone 4S for almost a year before I broke it in (small tip, don't ever dive with your cell phone), not many people seem to like iPhones but it was actually alright. However, I broke it last summer and then I switched to a Samsung Galaxy S III. I am currently still using that one, and it recently upgraded to Android 4.3 which drastically reduced lags. Even though I don't give a shit about the flame war between iOS and Android users, as a person who used both, I can tell that there's not such a big difference between them - at least if you are an adolescent who uses their phone only for texting and listening to music, and most of the people on this community are so yeah. My favorite is S III though, mainly because it's screen is way bigger than that of iPhone's (Well iPhone wasn't too small actually, but try using Turkish keyboard with all that extra letters and shit and you'll understand what I'm talking about)

I currently use two atm. The KYOCERA Event (powered by Virgin Mobile) and the Samsung Galaxy Note (powered by AT&T). I was using the Samsung Galaxy Note for a while (about a year) I don't use it now for the fact it's very expensive on AT&T and trying to see if I can change the carriers. The KYOCERA Event is the one I use a lot more on a day to day basis, for texts, phone calls, and such. The Samsung Galaxy Note is pretty much my gaming phone, playing all the android games on it. Speaking of this phone and the Iphone, I'll tell you a story of when I went to Disney Land in Cali. It was funny how many people (using Iphones) would turn and look at my phone and even asked me what it is. Many people told me that it looked like a mini-tablet, tablet/phone, and such. I think Samsung should pay me for the advertising I did over there...

Motorola Flipside. I like my phones to be more like pocket PCs. Hopefully, I can trust this one not to break. I have not had much luck with smart phones as I've essentially been ripped off twice.
I am not going back to Samsung or Sony, but sticking with the only company that has made me a lasting cell phone in the past, and that's Motorola.

If Motorola comes up with a new slide-out keyboard phone that isn't region-locked or carrier-locked or some stupid crap, I might get one someday. It's the kind of phone that's best suited to how I use them.

Yah, the Nexus is great for everything. Love the video quality and it has a lot of power under its hood. I prefer the iPad air because it's really light yet provides great performance (and comes with the best app ever, GarageBand) and the Surface Pro 2 because it has the kickstand and the keyboard included in the starter package.

One Motorola Handset is actually completely waterproof, so yeah, they make really well-built devices.

I've a iPhone 5S and it's pretty cool to have. I'm recommending it and the headphones are actually a lot better than the past headphones Apple made. So it's nice to see they're improved theirselves right now. :)

Really, the only cool thing at the 5s is the fingerprint unlocker. It has the specs of a 2011 Samsung.

I used an iPhone 3gs for two years as my first smartphone. In the beginning it was fun, had it running iOS 5.0.1 but then the 5.1.1 and following updates turned it to shit. Recently, I've upgraded to a Pantech Flex which is an AMAZING phone for the price (free on contract, I have AT&T). This phone breezes through anything I throw at it and it's just an amazing device. 1gb RAM, Snapdragon dual core (I believe it's a 1.5 ghz processor), Adreno 220 gpu. Only issue besides the godawful battery life is that it's only Android 4.1.2; praying for a Kit-Kat update in the future though (phone originally had Ice Cream Sandwich and was upgraded to Jelly Bean so who knows).
And actually, I love the on screen buttons (to answer anyone's questions) really brings a whole new level of interactivity with the device.

I have an iPhone 4S which will soon be upgraded to an iPhone 5. I've always really liked iOS, but a lot of my friends who were iPhone users have switched to Android phones recently and seem to really like them. I'm not exactly sure how to respond...

One of the things I loved about Androids is the true multitasking
And alot of what google is doing just makes sense to me, the on screen buttons I like alot, all the stuff kit kat added, and I mostly use Google services so it all works out quite well. Everything integrates nicely

One of my favourite features is being able to find a picture in the gallery and send it out to just about any app (eg, Kik) instead of having to go into Kik, and find the image from there.

Or being able to take a screenshot and share it from the notification center.

I'd really suggest giving android a shot, especially a stock device like a Nexus 4/5/7.

For that, I'd suggest getting a tablet tbh. https://play.google.com/store/devices/d ... _16gb_2013

My mom has the first generation Nexus 7 and (before she added the multiple user accounts that is >.>) was a super speedy device that does pretty much anything you throw at it. And for the price, you can't go wrong.

Android can be painful. You can't even open a zip file without going to play store and getting an extractor from there. I recommend you delve into either iOS or Windows Phone 8 (or rt) before attempting Android.

Well at least you can open zip files on there. I don't remember being able to on iOS (highest I ran was 6.x). My main complaint with Windows Phone 8 is the lack of apps (ironic because the .NET framework is one of the better Microsoft products). As for RT my main complaint is backwards compatibility with x86 apps but yano there's not really much we can do about that because of the whole ARM processor vs x86 processor thing

Pretty sure you can't even browse your files on iOS. That would be what Apple considers illegal jailbreaking. :)

Oh yeah :P yeah I was jailbroken most of the time I had my iPhone..Android is a much better experience. Especially if you can get a phone running stock Android 4.4 KitKat.

Speaking of that, iOS is what people consider posh and trendy (WP8 is trying to cater to that demographic, albeit they're not doing great). I don't like Android because it's basically featureless in case your phone manufacturer didn't include all their goodies. I couldn't even download apps from the store once because the download bar was stuck midway and I fixed that by formatting my SD memory. That was painful.

Well what kind of phone do you have?

Personally I still feel the best experience you can get on an android phone is a near-stock or Nexus device. Skins like TouchWiz (samsung) and HTC sense just add ALOT of unecessary weight to the OS and can cause alot of weird and unecessary errors. Granted, I run a Pantech phone but there isn't a heavy skin at all on there so I've never had alot of problems with it thankfully *knocks on wood*
