Dark Yoshi's Island
Logo coming soon
"Wow! What an original name!"
Hello it is me DarkYoshi, I am back!
You might remember my old project: "SMB: Quest of the Stars" well that is canceled. But a lot of my levels of that project will be transferred to this project. So this project is almost halfway done and there are a lot of unfinished levels I still can finish. I think quality goes above quantity, so this project won't be extremely long (around 30 levels). And I hope to release this in July.
The project takes place on an island (of course) and that is the only world there is, so no 8 worlds. The Island has a big variety of landscapes so you won't see a lot of levels with the same tilesets, so each level will be different, this is what I want. So I can create a fresh and hopefully great experience for the player. You progress by collecting stars. Not every star will be needed to finish the game, so you don't have to collect every star in every level, because I don't want to annoy you with my levels. This is also why the levels won't be extremely long (some of them will be though) and extremely hard. I want you to enjoy my episode, and I really hope you will enjoy it. The Island will have a lot of secrets and easter eggs, so exploring will be rewarding.
I am also still working on a story, but I won't spoil a lot of that for you. Don't expect a very complicated plot, it is still Mario. But I can tell you that Dark Yoshi will be one of the main villains.
Screenshots:
5-6-2015
Most of the screenshots are beginnings of levels, I don't want to spoil the rest of it
12-6-2015
For now I am going to design all the levels myself, so I don't need help with that. But I could use some beta-testers (Kyo if you read this, I would love to have you in my team again!). I also could use some help with creating some graphics (very small things I can't fix on my own...). So if you are interested contact me =P
BTW: I will create a credits list for the graphics I used.
I am open for suggestions, so if you have a level theme, tileset, music, an idea or something you think I must use, tell me. I would love to have the community involved with my project. So please tell me your ideas, I would love to hear them even if they are kinda stupid, just tell me :p
Beta-Testers:
- SuperMario7
Video-tester:
- MECHDRAGON777
Graphic designer:

Thanks for reading and I hope you will enjoy this episode when it comes out!

Been a while since I've seen Darkchao's stars put to use.
I don't know what to think about this project yet, as in my eyes every level in these screens looks pretty much the same. I guess I'll have to play the game to make sure the levels aren't just the same thing over and over with a slight variety in enemies and jumps.

I'll be honest, I feel like all your screens are spammed with lots of objects in one place. I don't know if that's good or bad, but it just doesn't look right for me.

I can't tell you how much I've missed you and your design style. I'm glad to see another great designer around!
These screenshots speak for themselves and I can definitely tell this episode will be of high quality.

I can understand why you say that. When I look back at those screenies I almost agree with ya =P But I am certain this isn't the case. BTW Are you Emral?
zlakerboy357 wrote:These screens looks pretty sweet, however I think some areas in your sceens needs more Coins :/
Yeah I suck at placing coins... for some stupid reason. I will try to fix it.

Thank you, and I will fix the coin-issue ;P

Well it kinda is my trademark =P But I can understand some people wouldn't like it. Thanks for you honest opinion.

DarkYoshi is back? Finally! I remember you from NSMBX's forum, welcome back! =P
On-topic: The project looks great, I like how looks the levels, I like the way that you have mixed the graphics, I must admit that I do not like the dark blocks in the screenshot N.3, I feel like there an unpardonable cut-off, perhaps could be improved a bit, for the moment this looks really interesting, I'm looking forward to see new progress!

Edit: here is a link to where you can get the tileset: http://www.smbxgame.com/forums/v ... =31&t=9324 I hope this is not advertising, but the tileset is in that pack!

Wow this looks great so far! The levels are well-designed and aesthetically-pleasing. The desert screen is probably my favorite so far. My only suggestion would be to lessen the gray overtone in the last screenshot. It seems like it would hinder gameplay a bit if it makes it harder to see the level. But overall, awesome job! I'm glad you've returned to making levels.
BTW can I be a beta tester?
