Kale: Superman's food (not), and how to reduce sodium

Postby [Egg]Egg » Sat May 30, 2015 11:46 pm

Hello, so what is Kale?
Kale (pronounced kail) is actually a kind of vegetable. And it's got extremely good health benefits!
HEALTH BENEFITS:
1. Has 200% Vitamin C in it (well it's 199% but it's close though)
Vitamin C is found in most fruit and vegetables.
However, lack of Vitamin C will lead to scurvy and tooth decay.
2. 200% Vitamin A!
Vitamin A is good for you. It's got 200% of it. We know vitamin A is toxic in high doses, and that 200% is very high! Also, Vitamin A is good for your eyesight. So what more is in it?
3. Has 15% calcium.
You know what calcium is.
Now, how do you reduce sodium in the diet?
REMEMBER, SALT ISN'T THE ONLY THING THAT FLAVORS YOUR FOOD.
Although the human body needs salt to maintain normal muscle function, when you see the amount of salt in processed and fast foods, it's too much!Too much sodium can lead to high blood pressure. So here's 10 tips of how to make food still taste great without the white flaky thing.
10. Use spices such as pimento (allspice), paprika, cumin etc, vinegar etc. in cooking instead of table salt.
9. Cut down on processed foods.
Processed foods tend to have heaps of sodium.
8. JUST BECAUSE IT'S LOW FAT DOESN'T MEAN IT'S LOW SODIUM.
When a product is low in fat, it's often high in sodium to enhance flavor.
7. Use products labeled "low sodium", "no added sodium" or "reduced sodium"
Whatever.
6. Cut down on salty snacks.
Cutting down on salty snacks won't harm your health! :D
5. Cut down on ham.
Ham is processed. That's why you should cut down on it.
4. Cut down on fast food.
Fast food is high in sodium and fat.
3. Avoid caramel.
Caramel is high in salt.
2. Avoid Microwaved Popcorn.
Microwaved popcorn is high in sodium.
1. Avoid white bread.
White bread is usually high in salt.
