To be honest, it was fine without the slopes, slopes can look ugly right at the begin of a level. I do really like the colours of your background by the way.

Why? Slopes add variety and variation so the level isn't just completely flat.

But this level wasn't too flat? You can also have different ways of having variety in the level, like structures or woodworks, depending on your theme.

I didn't say the level was too flat, I said why slopes make levels better.

I mean, it depends on what kind of level you are going for. A level doesn't absolutely need slopes to be a good level.

Ah yes. Variety AND variation.
No they don't. At least, mindlessly placing them doesn't. They're as much a design element as anything else. Levels don't need ?-Blocks or goombas on every screen, either.
Slopes serve to gently shape the terrain and help in placing the player in advantageous or disadvantageous situations. A cliff can serve a similar purpose.

the waterfalls are random and out of place, i suggest you remove them. i think the section could've benefitted with more usage of the line guides, because it's mostly just killing enemies and collecting coins. also, this part is unnecessarily long:

anyway, here's a random smb3 map:

I'm gonna remove the waterfalls that are coming out from top of the screen, so it wouldn't be out of place. I already used more lines in the previous screenshot that shows the same level with different section. The line part is okay, because it doesn't show a dragon coin onscreen. Thank you for critism, much appreciated.

Sometimes, it's the littlest things that can kill you. The level pictured here is only about 1% complete or so.
