Yay, Boom-Boom finally gets the attention he deserves! I've always had quite a few questions about him, like what species Boom-Boom is (Obviously a koopa, but I meant the types of koopas like the paratroopa and dragon koopas.) and where he's from.
I'm pretty sure Boom Boom is a Goomba who Bowser upgraded..
I searched it up and apparently boom boom is actually a subspecies of koopa which makes no sense at all to me.
Well, he does have a shell like a turtle is biologically suppose to have and a small beak. But it kinda doesn't make sense where he comes from really.

Boom boom in the old games just looks like a goomba because you see him from the front rather than the side and don't get a good look at his shell. In the newer games that he appears in however you can clearly see that he is a sub-species of koopa since all turtle based enemies are some kind of koopa sub-species or another.

I would like to try out the complete episode of this "Freshly Done" boss rush SMBX 2.0 episode once I get a new and better laptop.*

Keep up the work Admin PixelPest! ;)

*I'm going to make a list of SMBX episodes (One for 2.0, and one for 38A) that I'll try later!

You will all find out when the full releases comes what truly brought Boom Boom into being, however this sensitive information won't be revealed in the demos...

Here's a little something I posted on Discord that I've spent a while doing. Really upgrading these battles from the last demo.

I actually wanted more versions of boom boom in Beta4 including a lightning version that would be more yellow then brown and I find this thread and I am just excited with what I see. I just found this thread for the first time. I'm not sure how I missed it but it's nice to see other people have thought of doing more with boom boom. He really is a good boss. Will be interesting to see the final result. Nice work on this.

Before that they could add the other existing boom boom variants from Super Mario Bros 3 which there are three of. While one that does a small jump technically exists but behaves differently there is also one that jumps really high after being jumped on and the most noticeable of the three is the one that sprouts wings after it's jumped on. Also this project interests me more than other boss rush episodes which are usually just existing bosses reskinned as whatever the theme of the boss rush is. Most original ones tend to be those that reskinned mother brain when just using the editor.

So how many different Boom Boom fights are going to be in this episode when it is finished?

Planning on 12-16. Not all of them are really elaborate like this one (there'll be like 4-6) but they still explore neat concepts and are the length of a generic bossfight but more interesting (somewhere between 30 seconds to 2 minutes minimum) while the fancier ones take upwards of 5 minutes deathless if you're good

So your saying most of the Boom Booms are going to be ordinary boom booms but with some kind of special room gimmick (I at least hope the last boom boom is going to be some big epic final boss boom boom with maybe multiple stages to the fight like all great final boss battles).

Most of them (except for one?) involve modifying the Boom Boom's AI to create new attacks, often drastically, as seen in the gifs I most recently posted, sometimes in conjunction with an environment-based gimmick in the later levels. Some of the earlier ones it's just one or the other. For example there is one that works with a gimmick that is based around moving layers as well as an ice attack

I see, so the majority of Boom Booms will be custom it's just that their unique attacks will just be simpler rather than too elaborate like some. Wonder if you are going to include a flying boom boom in the mix. Also all the screenshots on the front page are broken currently just to let you know.

The goal is to create fun bosses, so yeah not all of them have to be over the top with complexity to be enjoyable. And yes there is a battle that involves a flying Boom Boom (at least one). I'll fix the screenshots when I get a little more progress and can update them with accurate ones, today if possible

Stop being so good at LunaLua.

Wow, unexpected update. Those concepts look magnificent. However, there isn't very much room to dodge the spotlight on the first gif. Was this intentional?

Looks incredible for a boss rush (considering they're usually crap and uninventive)!

What's this? A boss rush in SMBX that actually looks good and doesn't just use vanilla bosses over and over?

Unbelievable!!!

The first GIF looks epic. Sadly I don't have 2.0 yet, And I'm not too keen, but I will switch once it's out of beta
