hi i'm a new smbx level maker and i am a little confused about one of the reviews for my level
some guy called wraith said this about my level
"It is both huge and claustrophobic in my opinion."
i am not very good english but this sentence has left me with the puzzles!

So we have 2 Tiers left as well as the top 3, right?

CC12 had 83
How could the judges deal with that many levels then and you can't deal with 44?
Also why did you need to specifically point out that a level was made by Mechdragon? Is that a factor?
How is the fact of me making a level at all a factor? I will reaverage the scores with Wraith's negative scores once tier 5 is out. Or on Google docs.

I guess that's why there are 5 tiers, just to keep the last 3 in it's own winner day.
Tuesday - Tier 4
Wednesday - Tier 5
Thursday - Top 3
Are what's left and honestly, I don't see how well this will go in the end, so I'm looking forward to the top 3.

I kinda didn't want to jump on the train of bitching about wraith but two things pissed me off.
1. Dick move to single someone out.
2. If cursing in a level gave you a point reduction why wasn't that in the rules and not just a point from one judge's decision. If it affected level design in some way so be it, but I can't see something that small that has nothing to do with level design to weigh your score while it was not in the rules.

i noted yours only because it wasn't like the others.
Yours existed for one purpose only, to show off the lava layer "gimmick."
Thats why I considered it useless, in the entire spectrum of the contest, but different overall.

No. Do I think Wraith is handling this in the best way? No. But for Christ's sake, I'm not going to attack him over it. If you all really think Wraith's reviews should be removed, talk to the person hosting the contest. You can talk to Wraith about how you think his reviews are bad as well, but making images about him, attacking him and calling him names like salty, and even insulting him in signatures helps nothing.

Can we stop this before I make my minsode a 1 hour long level?
P.S.: Thank you for that few minutes of silence.

Positive reinforcement of what a level creator did correctly is just as important as highlighting the major flaws. Of course it's easier to just point out all the flaws, but it's also the absolute wrong way to write a review that constructively critisizes a level. There's being a critic and then there's being needlessly rude. Wraith, I hope you realize that you chose the wrong option on this one. Oh well, I can still hope that at least one positive review from you has yet to be revealed.

Actually if I can interject, I actually loved the earlier salt comments. I just didn't care much for the recent photoshopping pictures concerning me.
I say we keep the salt pictures going...we need some stress relievers.
Now, since Enjl's been chewing my head off I guess I will come clean. With his guidance I will alter my new rubric, yes I made one just for this and tested it on SVLC, for future uses. In addition, I will pre-record all the levels in the tiers so far with my current reviews in the descriptions. Of course with no commentary cus derp.
If anyone is so content on getting a in depth review from Tier three down, feel free to contact me. I will admit that I genuinely didn't expect it necessary to write full on reviews for levels I genuinely couldn't find a redeeming quality on. But, like in the case of Sewpah, you find it that offensive I will gladly PM you a proper review explaining my points if you ask nicely.

I imagine Tier 4 or 5 on, once we reach rating above 4ish or so you see some heart and soul in the "Notes"

@Wraith
I don't mind all the 0.00s, myself. What I take issue with personally is your being all "levels like this are
unacceptable for this contest" about PixelPest's and Linik/Thwomp King's levels. Your reviews give off the impression that that statement is based solely on their difficulty, which I could understand if we were talking about borderline-kaizo nonsense, but from what I've gathered the former isn't even terribly difficult - just poorly-executed in its difficulty - and I
highly doubt Linik and Thwomp King made anything
that hard. Granted, I've not actually
seen either level - I wholly admit it's entirely possible I'm grossly underestimating them - but I get the impression you're being excessively prescriptive about what is and is not okay to submit to a contest. Hard levels can be good too, provided they're, well, good.
Also:
as303298 wrote:As such, I find it hard to validate any purpose for submitting an incredibly experimental or debatable level into a contest.
"Experimental" is just a less implicitly positive word for "unique." The alternative is the same generic, milk-toast tripe you've played a million times before.
@Everyone else
Why do you guys keep mentioning the "please uninstall SMBX" reviews? Unless I missed one they're both on blatant joke levels... or at least I
presume litchh's is a joke, my apologies if not but with a name like Clashy Clash Clashlands one kinda has to expect this. :P

Dont get me wrong, the level's werent all entirely unbeatable. HOWEVER. I did not expect levels to focus so much on the difficulty aspect so much that they became blinded to what they could've really made. I take contests very seriously...and was annoyed that so many didn't envision a vanilla contest as lovely as the SMWC community are capable of making.
What people are annoyed at are my blunt comments and seemingly lack of review structure. True I am not entirely the most constructive in the posts, but I would sooner find your flaws than tell you what you know you did right. This will become much more apparent later on.

Wraith Adamknight - 0.00
This level was just dumb. No atmosphere, guidance or substance. I played the first section and legitimately just gave up on finishing this level. From what I gather, its incredibly linear and ugly, on top of about three birdo fights. Overall, bad level. If someone doesn’t even want to play it once then perhaps don’t bother sending it.
wait... Wait. WAIT. WHAT THE ACTUAL HELL!?
I can respect the other judges' opinions here:
- Yes, I could have made the Jelectros easier
- Yes, I could have made the Spike section easier
- No, there actually IS a way of getting the P-Switch without being small (you just jump shorter, so you don't get stuck)
- Yes, I probably should've put an arrow made of coins in the first section
But YOU, Wraith Adamknight, are clearly the WORST JUDGE.
You:
- Made assumptions ("From what I gather"), which some/all are CONTRADICTED by the other judges
- Made your nasty "you shouldn't even bother with a great game or IMPROVE AT ALL " comment
- Made standard nasty comments: "This level was just dumb"
- Didn't give any USEFUL FEEDBACK
But on top of all that, the fact that you DIDN'T EVEN FINISH THE LEVEL, and made an unfair judgement using assumptions, warrants you as the WORST JUDGE.
Can't believe I would've gotten a 6.2 without your useless judgement.
Can't even count Birdos
How much salt was in that comment? I'm curious.
