The world map is looking great so far. Isn't this map for your "Star of Subcon" project ?

I don't think that's how those level tiles work. They're supposed to be the shadows for vase scenery that's airborne. You're supposed to use the door level tile.

I wanted to try something new with backgrounds.

You can see the next section in the distance! Got the idea after playing DKCR.

So far so good, but pixelated.

It's either that (Fine IMO), 1x1 pixels (no), or I redraw it (too lazy XD). Might do some touch-ups later tho

Yeah, it is.

I never thought this. I'll change them later.

And retro studios got the idea from Virtual Boy Wario Land.
Which is where i thought you got the idea at first until i read what you had to say about it.

I miss my virtual boy...

This is the first screenshot collection of Super Mario Bros. X: Alternate Kingdom. These are early developments of the very first 8 levels, six levels, one dungeon and a Toad House with Marvin telling the tragic story about Princess Apple, the Lux Star pieces and the Eleanor Kingdom's fate.

These levels take place at the beginning of World 1: Green Plains, where levels are pretty much nostalgic. I call it the "Nolstagia Arc", right before Mario knows the story about the kingdom from Marvin. The levels afterwards will be all-new afterwards. Like these:

This is right after the first eight levels. World 1: Green Plains has been cursed by a Lux Star piece. Now it rains heavily. And Mario needs to retrieve it.

Heavy WIP, I started this tileset earlier today. Top priorites for me are finishing the tileset, adding BGOs, adding something to make the fill prettierm an actual BG and NPCs (thinking about editing a Dr. Mario virus, I'll probably take the M&L SS version if it has a good pose).

It does look very good, indeed! It's very interesting and tile placement is very good. The only strange thing there is that some of the "Blue Door" levels (I think they have secret exits, right?) don't have a second exit at all! Hopefully you'll fix that.
EDIT: oh and also, I think it would be cool if you could add some whales in your snow world map :3

Oh wait, blue doors are supposed to work that way? I didn't know that!
Also, I totally forgot about the whales, thanks for reminding me that.

Yeah, why would Sednaiur include two different doors with no purpose?! And no problem, always happy to help.

I want to see more of this for sure. It's unique, futuristic and could fit with easily 3 or 4 themes. The Mecha-Marios are pretty cool too, I never would have thought to make those myself, so overall it's a nice "thinking outside the box" idea.

First of all, typical greeting segment of a post to make a new user feel welcome

Secondly, I see that I can just take the Koopa shell to the left with Mario and throw it at the bricks to get through. If you really need the player to use Link for the whole level, put a player box at the beginning of the level and encase the starting point with Link blocks. That should work.

...Unless you've already done that, in which case I should probably stop assuming that any input I give is new information and should be taught as such

By the way, the background seems blurry. Intentional?

Yes, I already put a player block at the starting point.

No, that wasn't, I didn't noticed that. I took it from the NSMBX pack but now I will make one myself.

Thanks. I also found a good BG now, Techno Base Zone from Sonic Advance 2.
If anyone has ideas for NPCs, BGOs and other stuff regarding this, go ahead, I need inspiration.

You could try making a Code Bowser replacing Ludwig, and a Ban Hammer "Code" Mario Thing replacing a Hammer Bro.

If I include a boss, it'll be something more special (the boss I might use for this actually inspired something you've seen in the screen). I also don't plan on using custom powerups. Atm my biggest need are BGOs.

Edit:

Image

Some progress. Added a Sizable, two new NPCs and an actual BG. Now I need to think of BGOs and have to do some slopes.

BG and the Bird robot NPC (which replaces a SMW Ninji) are from Sonic Advance 2 and the Virus (get it) is from M&L SS
