Greninja was my favorite thing about that Nintendo Direct by far. I don't know about the rest of you, but to me that was a reasonable choice. Charizard's return also came as a surprise. But best of all, oooooh best of all, I got my good ole friend Yoshi back in the fight.

that is true
he might just be unlockable like he was in brawl. I don't see any reason to include him though, aside from him being in previous iterations.

As for characters to come I think Meta Knight will make a comeback for sure now, they added The Halberd stage, they'd have to be crazy not to. I think his moves set from Brawl will fit in nice with this new Smash, they said they've made all the characters stronger, so his moves shouldn't be a problem; especially when Compared to the others like Greninja, Charizard, Little Mac, and Mega Man.

Yeah, so the Direct this afternoon was fuckmazing. It was hilarious to see how many people got mad about Ridley being basically de-confirmed as a fighter (he appears to be a boss on the new Metroid stage) on reddit. The additions and changes to the gameplay seem good as well, and damn if the gameplay doesn't look MUCH faster than Brawl. All of the new characters seem like they'll be really fun to play as, as do the old characters. I also really like the moveset customization option. That'll be great for casual matches.
The online infrastructure looks like it'll work really well, especially compared to Brawl's really awful Basic Brawl mode. Having every stage be completely flat isn't exactly optimal (it makes projectile users and chain-throws more powerful), but it's far better than having as few viable stages as Brawl did. I'm really excited for that.
HOLY FUCK PEOPLE 3DS VERSION HAS CITY TRIAL FROM KIRBY AIR RIDE. That was my entire life a few years ago. I can't believe I didn't mention this first. If it can be played in random online (unfortunately it seems unlikely due to the two-gamemode structure of online) I'm going to explode (in a good way of course).
Samurai Goroh essentially confirms Captain Falcon, which I was honestly very slightly worried about. Ashley also confirms Wario in the same way, although she was revealed weeks ago.
The Greninja and Charizard introduction at the end was crazy; the fight between Charizard and Mario was hella badass.
Overall, Sm4sh is looking great, almost certainly the best game so far in terms of content, even more than Brawl. We'll see how the actual matches work though. Hopefully well. I trust you, Sakurai (though my trust is perhaps misplaced).

Watching the direct itself actually makes me want to buy both versions. Both have different stages and I did take somewhat of an interest to the 3DS version's Smash Run. Plus it would be nice to have a copy that I can play on the go.

I was really thrilled when I woke up this morning and saw that Yoshi has finally been confirmed. Actually thought of not buying the game because of that (come on, Yoshi is a Smash veteran, this game wouldn't feel complete without him; also, he's pretty much the only character I use). Gonna watch the whole Nintendo Direct episode today and see what else was announced. I especially wanna know why the heck Nintendo waited for such a long time to announce Yoshi, and I gotta decide whether to buy the Wii U or the 3DS version.

Sakurai also immediately said "just kidding, ZSS is getting her own character slot".

That was so good. I have to say I'm very excited now too, whereas most recent Nintendo games disappointed me. At least it doesn't seem rushed at all. The online "for glory" mode is a great addition for people like me who got sick of random and barely playable stages in Brawl. I actually thought about only buying the Wii U version but now I might get the 3DS one too. Outside of the very probable removal of Jigglypuff, the Arena Ferox stage from Fire Emblem: Awakening pretty much confirm that Ike won't return and that Chrom has chances to take his place.

Wasn't City Trial showed only to tell where the items ideas and design come from? I doubt it's playable even in the adventure mode.

This Smash looks amazing. I will definitely main Greninja. I made a prediction roster, what do you guys think?
I was thinking of leaving Squirtle and Ivysaur out but I felt bad not including them.

Well, yeah, I didn't literally mean City Trial. But Smash Run is essentially identical to it and that makes me happy beyond belief. It may be the closest we get to a real KAR sequel, although I'm still hoping. The fact that Luigi's Mansion got a sequel so long after the original game gives me hope.
To Tepig, that roster looks pretty nice. I'm really hoping that the Palutena leaks were real even though I haven't even played Kid Icarus Uprising. She seems like she could be a pretty badass and interesting fighter to me. Squirtle, Ivysaur, and Mewtwo all seem unlikely to me at this point, all unfortunately, because we already have 4 Pokémon characters confirmed and Jiggs is essentially guaranteed since she's from the original 12. Having more than 5 characters from a single franchise seems like a bit of a stretch to me. K.Rool also seems unlikely, since he seems to have been killed off by Retro Studios or something.
I also feel like the Direct probably de-confirmed Ridley which is sad I suppose but not particularly surprising. I wouldn't get my hopes up, but an actual second Metroid fighter would be nice.

when you think about it mario has eight characters
mario, luigi, peach, bowser, wario, donkey kong, diddy kong and yoshi
i know the kongs and wario have went out into their own series but they're still pretty much mario characters
so it wouldn't be too farfetch'd (amazing joke) to say that for pokemon we'd have
pikachu, charizard, greninja, lucario, jiggly and mewtwo
not as many as mario but certainly justified

donkey kong, diddy kong and yoshi
They aren't considered Mario characters. Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong are part of the Donkey Kong series and Yoshi has his own. Same for Wario.

All of them excluding Diddy Kong were introduced in a Mario game, and even then all of them appear in Mario Kart (Wii, at least). If we're not counting Diddy then that still adds up to seven which is still more than the amount of 'mon I said could work.

Pokemon had 6 characters in Brawl, so 5 is too low of an amount. And K. Rool isn't unlikely, the Kritters in Smash Run mean that Sakurai can include K. Rool in the game if he wants. I understand the direct "deconfirming" Ridley, but I feel Sakurai is just trolling us. Why would he just show a shadow of a supossed stage boss more than five monts after the stage was revealed when other stage bosses have been shown together with the stage when it was revealed? Yellow Devil, Dark Emperor and the fish from Ballon Fight have been shown right away, why would Ridley not be shown right away? It sounds pretty evil to hold off for months in revealing who's possibly the most wanted newcomer and then showing it as a stage hazard.
And we already have a second Metroid character. Zero Suit Samus. But I agree that another Metroid character and Palutena would be nice.

Pokémon may have 6 fighters in Brawl, but there are only 4 on the character select screen because of Pokémon Trainer running the show. That's why I find all three starters unlikely. I feel like they would've been announced along with Charizard (perhaps later on) if they were in. I'm not saying they're out for sure, though; Sakurai sure is full of surprises.
As for K.Rool, he could be in, I guess, I wasn't saying he would be out because of legal issues (he was also in that Mario baseball game), he just doesn't seem particularly relevant nowadays. Then again, we do have Ice Climbers and ROB. I won't count him out for sure either.
In Ridley's case, I definitely agree that his "reveal" in the Direct was a bit suspect and that we certainly don't know he's out for sure. A lot of people have said that it was probably Meta Ridley or something else that could have the same kind of shadow. Again, I won't count him out for sure. Also, I meant an "actual" second Metroid fighter as in a character who's not Samus. ZSS may be a separate fighter from Samus, but she's not a different character.

Now I understand what you're saying. I agree with you. Unfortunately, the shadow in Pyrosphere can't be Meta Ridley because he did not appear in Other M. The shadow is clearly Ridley, but there's no way to tell if it is a playable Ridley or a hazard Ridley.

Yeah I guess so. I also heard that you can see a shot of his wing for a split-second at some point in the video and it appears to be Ridley's. I'm still hopeful, though. I haven't actually played any Metroid games before but it seems like he could be a good fighter.

What no one seems to realize is that Ridley is too big for Smash. He's like, double Samus' height. And Samus is one of the taller characters in the game.

Olimar is barely as large as a grape.
