That download is fake, we cannot get the source code no matter what.
Not necessarily, it may have been the SMBX Visual Basic binary that was extracted by some folks a year or two ago. It was useless in terms of actual code, but the community learned a few new things about the game. For example, the string "NameUser" (the man now known as Ignoritus) is listed among the cheats, although it doesn't actually do anything if you type it in-game.

We could also all beg Redigit through Twitter and E-Mail.

That would never work though. Redigit hates SMBX with a passion, why would he allow us to make any large updates?

Why does he hate it? It's what got his career started. Many people would never have played Terraria if not for SMBX. Besides, by giving us the source code, he could technically get rid of it from his possession. Nintendo could do nothing to him!

Yeah, I know what happened to him. Funny considering the fucking start of the game states it's a fan-made game. THEy might as well sue the creator of Super Mario Flash and the guy who made Mario Builder.

Where did you get your information from?
Nintendo didn't sue him because of the game. Nintendo sued him because he was making money off of a website with SMBX in it, and that's copyright infringement.

Look, you're acting like I'm Benjamin Franklin claiming that all fat moms get spiders in their buttholes. I don't know what I stated was true, that's just what I have heard from multiple people.

Anyways, is there seriously no way to get the source code? Is there at least a way to efficiently recreate SMBX just like how it is now, but with different or new features?

There's no way to get the source code at this time.
The only way to recreate SMBX is to, well, recreate it. If you're a good programmer that can make a program like this, go ahead.

Yes, and forgive me for advertising, but VSMBX is being made by GhostHawk at the moment, so we may not have to settle for this for all eternity.
How well is that going? How close is it to being done?

GhostHawk is releasing a beta in Winter I think.

Is it possible to hex edit the "x of 20000" block debugger to the real number?

source code as we know it is lost, but I think the community has to get used to not having the same SMBx recreation but something more advanced!
So you have to get an idea whether to accept a version of SMBx born on visual basic com smbx I then recreated the old definerei January saw the times, or a next gen version as that of plagenwolh.
I am referring to the period, in fact if I VSMBX prove to be a good editor a little thought you can do.
In conclusion move away from the idea of smbx 1.3.0.? because without a source code that you will not go forward ammeno that does not happen a miracle!
