this point doesn't really stand because what the video showcases will not work as intended should the player enter with a different costume. and even then there's plenty of things that can be done in vanilla that are made easier with lua yet it still isn't allowed. there
is a discussion to be had, but it's just a matter of introducing more exceptions; a clear line must be drawn somewhere in any case. (personally i wouldn't mind custom music being forbidden either but it's a matter of preference)
Okay. You've said your piece and so have I. I'd like to know what the event managers think of this.

I think it's up to Valentine to decide t his for this contest, but yesterday I've made some updates to editor settings for future smbx2 versions that means the restriction won't exist for future vanilla contests. You will be able to set character and costume from the editor.

A bit late, but, since that feature will not be available to people until the next smbx patch, and the costumes occasionally do have some slight hitbox differences afaik:
I'm not going to allow switch the player's costume through lua, because I think it might not switch back when going to other levels and that could cause some conflicts and inconvenience. In addition to that, I think it's a bit too late in the contest runtime for me to feel good about making any rule changes or allowances.
If by some chance, the next smbx patch releases during the runtime of the contest (it won't) then everything in that patch, including setting the player and costume through the editor will be allowed, and an extension will be provided.

Easily avoided by setting the volatile flag to true when setting the costume

I apologize, but I would like some clarification on the due date as I'm pretty sure the 29th of May falls on a Sunday, not a Monday. I just want to know if I should be going by the day of the week or the day of the month.

did my other post with multiple levels get deleted? sorry, I didn't know you could only submit one level, I thought I heard someone say we could do multiple to get a higher chance or something.

for the sake of being fair, I'll say that the deadline will be the 30th, since it is the intention for the deadline to fall on a monday

Yep, there are just a handful of levels still missing because their download links were unavailable. The package will be posted once that is resolved.
Source: I collect the levels for sending them to the judges.

Are there still plans to release a level pack before the judging ends, or will the levels be released with the results?

in case anyone wonders about two levels missing from the pack:
cato and Sam4354 were disqualified. Former for hijacking last year's winner, latter for never having uploaded their submission.

Former for hijacking last year's winner,
forgive me if this is a stupid question, but what does this mean exactly? i haven't played all of last year's submissions so i don't know if this just means plagiarism or something else.

Preeetty much. The readme pretty much admits to having copied elements of The Keyp and switching out keys with pow blocks, attributed to creative fatigue.
It would not have been possible to judge the level on its own merits, because pacing, concept and presentation were semi-lifted from a level made by one of the judges. Hence the disqualification. Valentine can go into more detail, if necessary.
Here is a small comparison: Top is Waddle's level from last year, bottom is Cato's.
It's by no means a carbon copy with regards to gameplay (though there are clear similarities here in the first sections), but as outlined, several categories in the judging would not be possible to judge on their own merits.
Hope this explains the situation.
