Re: Alternate Editor for SMBX [Released!]

Postby Sednaiur » Sun Oct 26, 2014 3:14 pm

Thank you for taking care of the bugs ^^.
I have a question about the editor. Could you make it so, that even when you select an item/NPC/block from any of the windows, the level-window still is selected and controlled by the arrow-keys?
I mean like it is in SMBX, so you do not need to highlight the window everytime again. This could be very useful, even it being just a small thing to the eye, and I don't think that the arrow-keys are needed to scroll through the pallette-windows.

It's nice to see the engine coming forward bit by bit. It may be still an early developement-state, but it looks promising for now.
I guess you are already farther, than most people came with their attempts to create an standalone engine, so even knowing that a "good luck" isn't helping a progrmmer/coder in any way, I still wish this to you, aswell as much fun while programming.

The Engine doesn't work for me.
It starts,and shows a window for a second,after that it quits.Yay.

1) You need to put them into Editor's directory.
2) you need open engine with a file: this meas: drag file into engine .exe file like you drag file into folder to run engine with opening of dropped file.
Or second way: put any SMBX level together with engine and editor's folder and rename them into 'physics.lvl' and run them.

Window focuses when you clicking items in toolboxes: This problem is absence if item toolbox is docked into editor's window (unlike floating widget, docked is injected into editor's window, but can be free by simple drag. Veudekato was demonstrated this in his tiny video). Also use more CTRL key and mouse Wheel to scroll (Shift key will increase scroll step)

Thank you, but I don't really understand anything of that. I mean in SMBX you still can scroll in the level-window with the arrow-keys, even if you highlight the pallette-window. But I don't get, how I could change that.

if you wanna 'dock' some toolbox, simply move them nearly to one of editor window's edge and you will see if it ready to dock, and it will be docked when you will release mouse key. 'Docked' is attached into main window like icon toolbar, you also can drag them and leave free in air and dock them back into toolbar.
In next builds I will try to fix those annoying focuses and main window of editor should seize all focuses even you clicking to the floating toolboxes.

Nope- this is not happening for me.
Here is a screen of how the editor looks for me:
Image

When I move any of the windows to the border of the screen/of the editor-window, nothing happens there.

When you drag toolbox, move mouse cursor to window's edge before you will see big abstract rectangle which means ready to be docked and release cursor

I know what you mean by this, but for some reason it dosn't work. It shows no reaction like this, no matter what I do.
I tried in windowed mode aswell as in fullscreen mode. Nothing like that.

Edit:It dosn't matters much. Just liked to point out what you said you like to fix for the next version, so I really can live with it :-)

How to add custom graphics and tilesets? I want to make my own graphics, but because of configuration/integration, there's no place to create additional graphics alongside of the graphics already there. Is there a fix for that? Or is that a test? I would personally ADD graphics instead of getting a configuration pack. The 1.3 full config is either empty (with over 200MB of empty? space) or full of a bad error. I had to get the integration pack. That works. As for some pictures, there's a little pencil or something next to some tiles in the itembox. Is that for editing, because I don't see it in mine for some reason. :/

1) Custom graphics for levels/worlds adding by same scheme that in SMBX, to add custom tilesets please open the [view -> tileset itembox] and press "New tileset" button in the "custom" tab. Customized items will be displayed in the regular item box when you will choice "[custom]" category.

2) is you mean creating of own configuration pack? If you wanna add more items ID into config pack, append your new graphics into SMBX graphics folder, because "SMBX Integration" uses path to graphics of SMBX directory.Note: when you append into config pack new item ID, don't forget to increase the "total" value to get read new items.
Also here is a configuration pack reference butis not done yet:
http://engine.wohlnet.ru/pgewiki/Game_C ... References

3) I think, you have some wrong or missed graphics in your SMBX. "SMBX Integration" uses SMBX graphics directly.
You can download this pack and overvrite your SMBX graphics to take fix lots of wrong or missed files:
http://engine.wohlnet.ru/docs/_Importan ... dstyle.zip

4) full config pack uses own "data" folder where it have all graphics, musics and sounds in one package.
Is you install them correctly? Did you choice it in the [ tools / Global configuration / Change configuration ] ?

This I figured out. As for lvl blocks and npcs, they look complicated to add in. I think I'll just stick to world creation for a while until I feel more confident in the way the system works. I'll also see if there's a limit in the wldx creations anywhere. Me make big world for future game. Thanks for the advice, too. I feel like being designer of a big world that interconnects with itself. I can show you some screenshots later.
Again, thank you.

I'd recommend adding a grid that shows the actual screen size of SMBX in your editor. When I extend the boundaries, it's hard to visualize what I'll be seeing onscreen in a given area.

Hi, same thing is planned for world map by Sednaiur's suggestion:

This is a viewport previewer: it can be used to check what will be visible in the gameplay viewport:
Spoiler: show
Image
But I good suggestion to add same thing for levels too, and I add them into my development plan ;-)

Thank you very much, for fixing this. Now it is more convenient to use ^^.
Also, it's just one of my dreams for the multi-layered backgrounds, that you made true with your latest update. I always wanted some backgrounds to be like this. It comes best for caves, hallways etc.
Will you also do them with up to three layers?

I wish you good luck for your next steps. Nice to see updates like this comming :-)

Double-row backgrounds already exists in SMBX (smb3 blocks, hills with clouds below, smb night with hills over on section bottom, etc.), but they is not configurable and doesn't support transparency effects. I used my implementation of double-row background to make This. SMB3 cave with sky below will need for 3 and more images: is a double-row background with additional layers over. And will be possible use unlimited layers number, you can make, for example, forest, mountings, river, etc. as different layers and render them as composite background.
