I uses my phone and uses AndroVid for editing my videos, then open my computer and uses YouTube Studio once my video is done uploaded.

I use Movavi Video Editor 15 Plus. It's amazing and has SO many features. Although you will have to pay up. It's a paid subcription.

Right now, I'm really glad that RTR (Ryan ToysReview) didn't get terminated in the first place. I think my support project #SaveRyanYT worked after all. You can learn all about it when I release my NSMBX Special Funpack, which will be finished soon. And I mean, long after this reply is posted.

Have a good day!

P.S. I'm pretty sure said channel was a channel that was made-for-kids. I saw a screenshot of YouTube Kids with one of the videos of said channel. And you shouldn't be confused if you played SMBX: The Great YouTube War of 2020. That is all, really! ;)

1. Read Cedurs Post, there was never any means of channel terminations.
2. I doubt a hashtag trend you made prevented that, they haven’t helped ever cause in the end it’s the decision of someone who else.
3. Did you just bump this to like promote something you do for no reason.

Okay, I take everything I said yesterday back! And I admit it! Ryan ToysReview wasn't really terminated EVER, and I lied about the support project #SaveRyanYT. The truth is...

THE #SAVERYANYT SUPPORT PROJECT WAS NEVER EVEN STARTED!!! I'm sorry. Please don't kick me out. I told the truth, the entire truth, and ONLY the truth. :(

I hope you can forgive me.

Also, phew! Thanks for telling me the truth about YouTube's new Terms of Service, Cedur! I knew no YouTube Kids channels would be terminated from this new ToS. Well, we figured it out. No reason for me to conversate about the Ad-Pocalypse anymore. :D

But thank you all for sharing this useful information. It helped really well. And don't forget to download and play my NSMBX Special Funpack which is coming soon only on the SMBX Forums!

Thank you for reading, and have a great day!

May I quickly ask, how old are you as you are quickly and gullibly taken in by random sources on the Internet that often prove to be manipulative?

youtube-dl taken off GitHub

Postby aero » Sat Oct 24, 2020 11:14 pm

For those unaware youtube-dl had their GitHub repo taken down with a false DMCA: https://github.com/ytdl-org/youtube-dl/

The entire repository was taken down because the RIAA thinks 3 examples of using youtube-dl contained in the code counts as encouraging people to copy and distribute copyrighted songs. The RIAA has previously failed to take down other tools and doesn't have a leg to stand on with this case if ever did with other attempts. YouTube-dl is a command line tool that can download videos and metadata from websites, not just YouTube, to save on your computer. It's not a copy tool, nor is it a distribution tool. Since youtube-dl is free and open source software there's plenty of forks and copies available so the project hasn't been lost. The project is completely legal so the developers shouldn't have to worry about issues beyond dealing with GitHub.

I personally use youtube-dl to stream YouTube videos through mpv with my RSS reader. It's also a great tool for archiving videos and other data linked to them. The thing to be mad about isn't some sort of win for the RIAA, but that an entire repository for a very useful and popular project can just be taken down over nothing.

Here's two of thousands of forks available to clone:

Is youtube-dl the thing used by those youtube-to-mp3 converter / downloader sites? While I never use the youtube-dl myself, I do use those converter sites. If they do use youtube-dl, will those sites be affected?

Idk probably not. I avoid those sites because of the malware they usually have.

YouTube's bell is unnecessary

Postby aero » Tue Nov 17, 2020 4:50 pm

So now that youtube-dl is back I wanted to make a thread explaining how I use it. I use an RSS feed reader with mpv to stream videos without needing to use YouTube's front end for subscriptions. With my set up I don't need to use YouTube's subscriptions or rely on bell notifications to see new content from channels I like to watch. This is accomplished by the RSS reader acting as the subscription manager, and mpv using youtube-dl to stream the videos.

There's multiple ways to do this though I prefer newsboat for its TUI and simple usage. All you need to do is add the RSS feed link for a channel to its urls file, and add a macro to open links with mpv and functionally you have a local YouTube client.

YouTube has quietly gotten rid of RSS from its subscription manager so now links have to be gathered manually channel-by-channel. They've also scrubbed any visible links for channel feeds, and you have to manually dig through the page source to find the RSS link to add to your reader. So instead of doing that I wrote this quick script to take a channel link and spit out the RSS feed so it can be added to a reader: https://github.com/GhostHawk10/youtube- ... /getrss.sh

Newsboat macro to stream YouTube videos with mpv by typing ",y"

Code: Select all

macro y set browser "mpv %u --autofit-larger=1280x720 " ; open-in-browser ; set browser "elinks %u"
One thing to keep in mind is that because you're not using YouTube's front end you don't have to deal with their tracking scripts, but you won't be supporting the people you watch with views and ads and you won't be able to engage with the video. Also it should be said the mpv can be modified with lua scripts, and it's already a very powerful media player.

Does anyone else here do something similar?

I never liked this bell system to begin with. The fact you subscribe to a channel should be all you need to tell that you're into said channel's content, adding those unnecessary steps in the middle is just an inconvenience.

At the same time doing this goes against my principles. I watch my favourite creators because I enjoy their content, but if I don't contribute to their ad revenue by using this system I'm doing a huge disservice towards their effort. Yes, they do what they do because they enjoy it, but I sure as hell wouldn't work anywhere regardless of whether I liked it there or not without getting a single penny out of it.

Well you don't have to use mpv to watch videos. You can still collect links for new videos and watch them in YouTube's player but this has privacy implications. There's also the option of directly giving money instead.

I've only really used it to keep up with the antics of a rapper. But not any more.

The Feedbro browser plugin is what I use and it's comfy.

I could with some of 'em, but not everyone has a means of being paid directly. Some content creators even have a Patreon to go with it but others are fine without going to those extents. And besides, I'm happy paying them without using a single penny of mine too. =P
