im the game designer here and i'd just like to tell you that macs are trash and are cool for media production/video and audio editing but literally nothing else

that and some shit's pretty backwards like i like that it's got bash and it's got some classic tradition in it but then it tries to be all modernist and cool and like, it's just not for me

i'm infinitely more of a win10 and linux kind of guy; i like both, linux is cool as shit in its core and the kinds of operating systems you can get are sick, software support is getting better and better, pacman is the best package manager to date, windows 10 takes the best of windows 7 and yes, the best of windows 8 (say what you will there were indeed some good steps in its design philosophy but it was too mobile-oriented)

for pure programming tho always go for linux because i swear you'll get nothing done playing things like witcher 3

for all you kids saying windows 8 was the worst decision, i mean, you've got some water because it really was a bit misguided with what it was targetting, but it certainly wasn't the worst OS, that still goes to ME for shitty compatibility with everything, being bloated, running like shit no matter what, being a mostly irrelevant OS in the first place

the point is, windows 8 was actually pretty good for the mobile and 2in1 users, just not really so much for the average desktop user, which is a fair point to criticize it for; i mean windows' biggest base is the desktop base, after all
and for that at least it actually worked for what it wanted to, it wasn't just inherently broken, just a bit bizarre that led to 8.1 coming out and 10 being the apology plus fusion

say what you will win10 is pretty solid overall and runs fine

I really wish that it didn't exist, but it does.

There was a top ten list that had an old operating system that had no security or pass word system on it (AKA anyone could access your account). It was where many hackers started.

Which operating system was it that was created so some guy could ask god why black people and gay people existed? I can't remember the name of it.

Linux isn't actually too bad. It's just catered more to programmers/developers and less to the average Jim who wants to go on and check his Facebook and read the news

Operating System uses:
Mac: Media production (music, movies etc)
Linux: Programming
Windows: Everything else

I have nothing that consists of the worst for me but I do remember that when I had my Win 8 PC, after 2 months of use it apparently crashes more frequently for no reason... but even after several repairs I don't consider that to be the worst for me. I use Win 7 and I'm happy with it... too bad we have to switch it in the future someday.

Mac is also good for programming as well. I can't account for first party resources, but many of the resources I use on Linux are also avaliable for Mac with similar performance. You could also add server use under Linux as well, but I don't think many people think about that.

Slowly but steadily, Linux is starting to creep over other sectors of computing outside of programming. Word processers and spreadsheet editors are catching up with their compatibility standards to Office, and will work in most situations. Steam is porting more and more of its games over to SteamOS, which means it runs on any distribution of Linux as long as steam is in its repositories. The Linux port of Bitwig marks the first great DAW on the platform, although there are plenty of music plugins as well. Krita continues to flourish, and Inkscape, Pinta, and MyPaint exist as well. Blender, while not easily picked up, is great at everything it does. Shotcut works pretty well as a video editor, and it was the one my mom settled on after finding out Windows 10 doesn't come with a complementary video editor.

Perhaps the biggest roadblock right now is that people are comfortable with particular products from popular brands, like Adobe. But as it stands, Linux has tons of options avaliable, enough that many people consider it satisfactory to run windows in dual boot or VM for the few products they absolutely need to have.

Of the ones people actually know about, Windows. It's really not that bad though; and it's currently the only logical choice if you're a gamer.
