that's just a nihilistic view from both of you, our ranks are nice, and while I'm not fussed about the yoshi egg rank, I'd still prefer to go back on the normal rank track after a while.
'kay let's be a bit less "nihilistic" and list some of those things the ranks system does, alright?
-encourages spamposting to increase postcount and rank (people still make "yay xth post i am now a thing" posts or "what does the cheep cheep mean" topics)
-confuses new members
-creates dissatisfaction with users like in the post i quoted
-bloats right side of the posts

Snessy and Mable have a point too. The way ranks are used on this forum has nothing to do with displaying actual ranks of users within a system to display their status (moderator, admin, founder, contest winner, idk) but creates the illusion of such a ranking system linked to post count. "Oh man that guy has 1474 posts, he's gotta be smart and important and a great and loved member of the community." I can honestly not see any benefits to the system.
But remember, Joey's dream for this place was to saddleback off of what Redigit did, so ranks are 100% necessary no exceptions.

My biggest problem with ranks are the bloating of posts as Enjl mentioned. It might as well be scrapped entirely because nothing else really would be of value enough to replace it.

On an unrelated note, would it be more convenient for people to use this extension for screenshot requirements in the levels and projects forum? It might be more intuitive for people new to forums that don't understand hotlinking.

while i don't see much point of ranks, i don't see the point of removing them either.

As it's been said plenty of times before, threads like "hey look I'm cheep-cheep" are the problem of the respective users and not the system. And this stuff doesn't even bother me much, if anything it rather gives me a silent laugh sometimes.

Also the signature scrollbar doesn't seem to work for Linux.

Guess people love their not-common sense posts and pixels

why are locked forums represented by a key? shouldn't it be a keyHOLE?

Does it really matter. It works as an indicator just fine imo

Saying it a bunch doesn't make it less false?
Like, the system gives the users the option to act this way. A good system accounts for a broad range of users and tries to get the most benefits out of it, and thus far I still haven't seen you list any benefits to ranks aside from your silent chuckles.

E: Will the mafia forum be moved to archive now that it's locked for a while?

A suggestion for the website.

I'd really like to see newer episodes and graphics packs when I click on the SMBX WORLDS and SMBX GFX pipes.
They are still from 2014 :O

maybe when mafia stops being on it's hiatus, can i host the next game?
Because i have tons of ideas, like a role that's able to paralyze someone.

Even if mafia reopened, you would need to play a game first, then make a game which gets approved, then convince people for your game and your aptitude to host since a poll is run, but based on your history you're not very trustworthy I'm afraid.

If playing a game is required to be a host, then i want to be one of the strongest roles; that is if mafia become unlocked.

Roles are randomized and people vote on who they want to host a game during the host sign-ups, which are usually experienced and noteworthy players

I'm guessing the hiatus is permanent until the end of this summer?

The Topic That is Visible Write Now on the Mafia Forum from the Board Index wrote:Mafia is on indefinite hiatus.
Indefinite; hence nobody really knows

That's not how Mafia works.

It's on hiatus indefinitely, which means it may return in an unknown amount of time.

Yeah, you should probably explain why you think ranks are a good addition instead of just continuing to say "Ranks are awesome plz don't remove them".

timocom did you know that there are entire forums dedicated to mafia and that you don't have to wait for the hiatus to be over in order to play the game with other people online?
There's also the game Town of Salem which is basically Mafia.

I'd personally like if the new topic button was placed under global announcements instead of above it, that just makes more sense to me. Also, I still think it would be better if stickied posts would be in a seperate tab below global announcements, since that would clean up space in the regular post tab.
