Now, I think the community is doing better with handling their objectives; yet I think we need a good way to stop the ban discussion. Nobody really appeals bans on the forums publicly anymore, which is a great thing because before it would cause more locked topics. I think that if we were to implement a rule for IRC to not allow public ban appeals, or discussion of bans at all whether it's about them or not we could get this problem resolved. The problem is that I don't want to stack another rule on the ones we already have for IRC, and if too many people disagree with the rule it will not make anything better. So is this a bad idea, can something better be done? How do we go about keeping private things private and not going overboard with moderating what's public? How do we reach the equivalent of no locked threads on the forums with no drama on the IRC?
I think drama on irc might be avoided if less threads got locked because of the subject of the discussion rather than the heat of the discussion? idk i haven't really seen drama on irc so i can't say much.

The only way to stop talking about bans is to not talk about them. Public ban appeals have never been allowed, not to mention the fact that to publically appeal your own ban you'd have to evade it to get back into the IRC.
I think that this makes relevant the larger issue as it pertains to rules - there is a difference between a rule and a commonly accepted practice among community members. I can write rules all day, no problem; the hard part is changing the fundamental practices of the community since that requires work from everyone. Think of it as "please don't do that" versus "we don't do that here".
Good examples of "please don't do that" would be insulting users, double posting, and spamming. Good examples of "we don't do that here" would be obsessing over who has a staff position/is banned, posting with improper English, and being really sensitive. The problem is, in our case, that community members actually do those things.

I wasn't using "smartass" as an insult.

That topic was terrible and I encourage you to find a reason why it wasn't.
EDIT: It wasn't active until somebody bumped it, and the discussion didn't go anywhere good. I'm going to make decisions based on my own personal judgment, as will any other staff member.

That's around what I said in a PM to Nien. Although you could have said this instead of what you did.

I'm not saying it wasn't terrible, i'm saying you literally locked it with the reasoning "i think this thread should end"
like gh said, you could've just said what you said right now.

Just ask an Admin if you want your account to be deleted but it's not recommended what so ever since this is your final choice. I'd rather not do it though.

I left the community two years ago because the community was pretty bad besides a dozen users, and the game hasn't seen a true update since 2011. Is anyone planning to actually construct a new engine, or is the community still stagnating? I know there were many failed attempts at reviving SMBX, but seriously, people are gonna get bored of this game eventually, and it just needs a complete overhaul. I know the appeal of SMBX was that it didn't require knowledge of coding, but there's gotta be someone here who can do that sorta thing.

There are actually quite a few people on some very advanced SMBX-like programs, Someguy. Check out Visual Super Mario Bros. X and Platformer Game Engine (PlatGenWohl).
There's also LunaLua, which is sort of an addon to SMBX that, in basic terms, changes the memory data in the program and allows you to do some pretty awesome things.
Though to be honest, I haven't seen some things done with vanilla SMBX that I know it's capable of, and I've been saving them for my own projects.
