The color scheme and backgrounds in the screenshots look great. I actually played Hotel Mario growing up at my neighbor' house, so it will be interesting to see what elements you take from that game for your own.
There is something about the colors used in the 3rd screenshot that really remind me of the McKids / Global Gladiator series! it doesn't simply remind me of a mario level and that's a really good thing
