You'd think an anime where thousands of people get trapped inside a video game gives the creators freedom to highlight the game and its environments, focus on the quests and make evil clans like the Laughing Coffin the large threats in the game. Rather than cancelling the adventure mid-way to switch the story to a "damsel in distress" scenario.
I ended up liking the GGO arc the most out of all of SAO, because it has a mysterious antagonist, and I'm a huge fan of tournament settings. Unfortunately, Season 2 continued after GGO finished. Excalibre and Mothers Rosaria were something I didn't enjoy one bit.
