Plenty.

For one thing, users with negative karma are usually the ones who are really bad at judgement, hence why they're negative. It'd be really broken and suspect to abuse if karma meant you WEREN'T a part of the system and the people you downrep are.
For another, in a clean system, everyone would have 0 karma at the start. Read, not negative. Do not try to tell me that's negative, or I'm going to slap you with a math lesson.
And one more thing. I can see people asking for downreps instead just so they can spread karma around. Imagine christian07 and the like being responsible for your rep, my rep, and all the others.

You could've thought this through yourself. Why didn't you?
I got downrepped because I made a bad joke about McKids. I don't think I have bad judgement.

Don't feel bad. I was downrepped for making an important announcement.

I meant to allow negative users to only give upreps and not downreps. Positive users would still be able to uprep and downrep.

DarkMatt gave you an answer to this, and he does have some pretty good points.

He said some things like "people would want downreps so they could give reps" and "if everyone had 0 reputation they couldn't rep". This wasn't what I meant.

I have no idea what DarkMatt thought he was responding to but I still pretty much agree with "users with negative karma are usually the ones who are really bad at judgement, hence why they're negative."

It was FoS. And hey FoS? If your post doesn't even convey what you actually want, then maybe you should type more than one sentence.

FoS write a paragraph for things you want. Flesh it out. Come on, I'm pretty sure people are tired of seeing you go at a sentence every couple of minutes.

And way to only pick apart what you don't agree with instead of digesting my whole post. That makes me really appreciate typing a response to you.

I think your post was pretty self explanatory, FanofSMBX. Also, DarkMatt had some very logical points on why this shouldn't be done.

I'm sitting here at the reputation screen going, "You know, if I was a real asshole, I would be hitting 'submit' right now."

Clicking submit to that post above isn't much better.

But yeah, it took a LONG time before he got a positive reputation. He was majorly downrepped, up to a reputation of -13 if I recall correctly. It's good to see he decided to improve and was motivated enough to neutralize such a big negative reputation, and finally managed to get it positive. Props for that.

Ah, number munchers. The teacher I had for math class in 2nd grade had a computer with that on it. One day, after finishing my work relatively early in the class period, I got a chance to play. :3

...I had looped the level counter by the time class ended. I wonder if anyone beat my high score? Probably not, though. :p
