You're kinda missing his point though. If you subscribe to a forum only to get drowned in notifications you will never check, then what's the point of subscribing to it in the first place?

I've never subscribed to a post before, but I have been considering it. Usually, however, I just ignore any topic I'm not interested in.

That's an issue of how you handle your notifications once you start subscribing. I make sure to check all of my notifications so they don't pile up (and rarely I click "mark them read")

And that's exactly the issue at hand here. If someone can't handle notifications for a whole forum, they shouldn't subscribe to a whole forum. I personally use notifications only for mentions and reports since subscribing to forums is not something I need, and clicking "view your own posts" and "new posts" works decently enough for threads.

I am subscribed to projects and Mafia. I think I managed to get 20 at one point, but that would probably be quotes rather than people posting in those forums.

And you can mark notifications read though if you don't want to read 500+ notifications.

I'm subscribed from General to videogames, I just managed to get 22 notifications... at least for today

Going back to the initial post, I'm rather inactive in the forums and I claim to be back from time to time - but after a max of 2 days I'll fall back into the shadow.
I don't know why is that, perhaps other games are making me drown in them way too much.

I subscribed to the Mafia forum because I like to know when the next game has started, I don't know why I am still subscribed to projects but I am.

Update:

I had massive inactivity through 2015-2016, and I kept leaving unannounced to focus on other things for a while. At most, I think it was about 7-8 months or so. I don't expect to have massive inactivity anymore, but I do expect to have a few off days from time to time. Those are usually the days I have school.

I check the forums like once or twice every day but not really in any amount of depth unless an interesting topic catches my eye. I won't make a post unless I'm really feeling like putting in the effort and I have extra time to do so, so that can be chalked up to either laziness or disinterest. I am constantly active on Discord almost 24/7, just not in the SMBX server specifically, I feel like certain people and situations have driven me out of that place, it's worse than what the IRC used to be. All in all if you're trying to find me then I'm on Discord doing my own things with my own group/server, I am still in the SMBX server.

I am very active , I check the forums at least around 10-20 times a day.

I'm in the forums almost all afternoon, even if idle or just reloading the page over and over. I'm also usually on Discord.
If I'm not in the forums on an afternoon, I'm probably traveling or doing something else.
I consider myself very active.
