yes there's been cases where the community has been trolly and uncivil in an unwarranted way. But where is the hostility here, especially before the dude went immature and bullishly proclaimed "it's my art", like a 3-year-old would say "scribbling is my art"? Also I'm sure he would have left quickly no matter what, as many newcomers automatically do.
No direct hostility, but you don't need hostility to fuel a fire:

Topic starts with a ramble about whether or not a game needs custom graphics. Nothing out of the ordinary. OP replies:
I will be adding custom GFX soon as I said in the other topic that i will be using it But you do not need to be so rude about my level it's my design and i like it. It will be fun level!
Nothing harmful about that post. First replies come in:
viewtopic.php?f=90&t=18302#p267999
The term "constructive criticism" gets attached to the arguments made before, none of which were constructive. People gave advice based on their perception of quality, but nobody bothered to explain to a newcomer as to why they might want to do it. "Add scenery because it looks better" is pretty lazy advice, and can be easily misinterpreted.
His next reply is I suppose where you claim he started being immature:
It is my art and design.
Which was quickly followed up with another rebuttal defending the criticism so far as constructive, and people from the side you defend are starting to get pushy:
viewtopic.php?f=90&t=18302#p268004
viewtopic.php?f=90&t=18302#p268005

Naturally he then interprets this turnaround as rude, since so far nobody has been kind in this topic or even bothered to elaborate on their "constructive" advice:
viewtopic.php?f=90&t=18302#p268015

And then he left.
Now, while some might see his actions as "immature" and "refusing to listen", consider this: Guy's been overwhelmed with a load of information he can barely piece together at once and the stream doesn't stop coming and people are getting less and less patient. It's been 2 days. Shoving a large amount of information into someone's face and expecting it to stick without sitting down with them and being there when they need help is basically setting yourself up for disappointment (learning for a test the night before-style. won't stick after a few weeks).
As for "It's my art and design" being a selfish and immature counter to what came before... no. Absolutely not. Context is your friend here: Giving advice is one thing, but the posts coming before are a lot of "do this and that", which would lead to them designing based on the feedback entirely, loosening themselves from developing their identity and skill and falling solely into what is asked of them. Learning the night before-style.

So yeah. I don't think it's his fault that he left. Short temper towards newcomers is not how you keep a community alive after all.
