I found something weird. It says the user has 0 posts, but if you search user's posts you can see a post he made.

I've never seen an active forum where half of its users are either ghost accounts or spam. It shows that there is very little growth, active users are in the minority, and the rest of the picture is harder to find because there's no public analytics of this site.

Honestly if you take all of those, and people who haven't posted in years, and then deleted their accounts I think we would only have a few hundred users. It's not that impressive.

Personally, I think that any account with 0 posts that does not get any activity in 3 months should get deleted. But that would be too much work for the staff.

Also, there are 44 pages of users that have had an account for at least a year without even posting anything.

It takes a few clicks in the ACP to prune all of them. It would also get rid of the spam accounts birthdays from showing up every day. 2 for 1.

Its that easy? Oh, then why don't they simply delete all those accounts? Like if there was a reason to keep the accounts. The newest member is qpcwc81 and there is a birthday for n6dip727, and he has not been active since Dec 31, 2015. Only active for 5 minutes. Definitely a bot.

It makes it look like there's a large community when it's not.

Yeah, when the most users ever online is 282, but with 4188. The numbers don't go together.

I wouldn't expect this place to have more than a few hundred active users anyway. It's never been a particularly large community. And I'm telling you, I've been on active forums before, and sites that have been around for a while are bound to have a lot of dead accounts. Not 50%, but the numbers here are inflated by all the spam bots.

Having a small fraction (20% or less, even) of active accounts compared to total registered users is the norm, I would say.

Maybe for the type of forums you visit. You don't find it off that this place is a ghost town most of the day, and that at any given time there's more ghost/spam accounts than active/legitimate accounts? Your IRC network is dead too if you leave out the bits where people are pretending to lick each other in between the wall of joins and quits. The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again, and expecting the outcome to change. This place is going to go the way of NSMBX sooner or later.

You'll need to provide examples of forums that have more active users than ghost users because those forums are not in the majority. Also, this place isn't a ghost town at any point during the day.

You're the one that said forums have 20% or less active out of the total, so I'd like to see that. This place is a ghost town, and it doesn't mean much when you say it considering you're out all the time.

These forums have hundreds of people on weekly/monthly, and that's the norm. This place only has a dozen or two at most out of ~1K-2K members. If these places pruned their old dead accounts, then there would be a much higher ratio between active and registered users. If this place pruned all of the dead accounts, it would just be embarrassing.
This garbage forum is even more dead than this place. I'll give you credit though because the staff here isn't nearly as bad as on that forum, so that's something I guess.
Dead.
This is the only forum comparable to here. It's not the norm.

You're here in the morning briefly, and in the evening briefly. At any point in the day, there's usually just the 80 guests or a handful of users. I know you see the quit/join walls on IRC and the asinine discussion that fills in the gaps so I don't need to explain that to you.

Are you talking in terms of relative figures rather than flat numbers? Because that's what I was doing. I know that SMWCentral has more active members than we do, but they also have 5 times as many registered users. My point was that the amount of active users is 20% or less of the total registered accounts. That seems to hold true for every site I linked to, but it's not like I've investigated this in depth. The most Talkhaus has ever had online is 245, which includes guests and bots, and that's hardly "hundreds weekly/monthly".

I'm here more than just "briefly in the morning and evening". I don't know where you're getting that information from, but it's false.

I just think that dead accounts should be deleted to get more accurate numbers on this forum's activity. Many people think that having 4195 users looks good but 50% of the accounts have not even posted anything, and searching the members, from that half that posted at least something, almost 20% only has made 1 post and 60% have made less that 10 posts.

In total about 20% of the total accounts have made it to more that 10 posts, 10% have more that 30 posts, and only 8% has made more that 50 posts. Simply check the members, sort it by post count and go to page 155. All the pages before has made less that 50 posts.

I'm using rough numbers and general trends. It'd take to long to do the math and get all of the ratios, and would kind of be pointless anyway. And I misspoke about he hundreds weekly/monthly thing, it's spread out over weeks and months of more unique people posting and engaging; not raw totals of people online and active at a given point.

woah holy crap.

lol so i was looking in the wrong place when i had put this post up. i thought stuff had stopped since 2014 or something. I have never made anything completed to the point where i would want to post it here, so the mod accepting my levels are definitely not the case. just a misunderstanding is all.

Thank ~Zax

Funfact: I am on 50% of those linked boards and I am inactive on all of them, hate two of them though mainly because they are shitty and I was banned for no good reason.
I wonder if me being active again would change the percentage of activity? :P

I probably shouldve had like 15000 posts or more especially on Kafuka though...
