He meant Alpha Sapphire. And on that topic, I actually preordered both of those games. I plan to go out to get them on their release date.
I guess it's eventually my job to put you "in your place" once I get ORAS next Friday. I did preorder Alpha Sapphire, but I'm happy to report that I just had a shiny Rayquaza RNG'd. Naive, 30/31/31/31/31/31, completely legitimate. It's going to be an awesome Mega Rayquaza. Yet even I am not mean enough to stoop to that level, to the point of using such an absurdly overpowered 'mon. And now, for everyone's reference, I'd like to share my analyses on every. Single. New. Mega Evolution. I've been doing a ton of research for ORAS, and hopefully you can benefit by reading.
First up, we have Mega Beedrill. I was shocked when they lowered its Sp. Attack all the way down to 15 to increase its attack to 150 and speed to 145. A once mediocre mon is now a very real threat, but it's not without its flaws. Paper-thin defenses hold it back from being top-tier.
Pidgeot. Basically, Hurricane and Heat-Wave spam. That's all it gets, and its Attack is not high enough to run mixed. Hidden Power Ground will probably become the norm. Its No Guard is ability is a double-edged sword...or should I say stone? Although an 100% accurate hurricane is a godsens, that also means moves like Stone Edge will always hit it for super-effective damage. Not the best new mega.
Slowbro. One of my favourite new megas. 95/180 defenses mean that Mega Slowbro is as close to impenetrable on the physical side of the spectrum, but it can patch up its Sp. Defense with Calm Mind. Mbro makes a name for itself by being able to run Scald / Calm Mind / Rest / Sleep Talk and laugh at physical attackers. Once this thing sets up, your only hope is Leech Seed or Taunt. Literally nothing else, because Rest heals status. One of the best new megas imo.
I'm not gonna go in-depth with Steelix, but I will say this: he is 100% outclassed by Mega Aggron. He does anything and everything better than Steelix can even hope for.
Sceptile's finally viable. Dragon typing means 4x ice weakness, but it's not like you were gonna let him take an ice attack anyway. 145 Sp. Attack and Speed means that it can outspeed and OHKO Greninja with Giga Drain, which is an AMAZING quality in OU. I cannot state this enough, but the fact that Sceptile outspeeds ninja and Mega Manectric is a literal godsend. Kinda frail though.
Swampert's good in the rain. Despite his somewhat chubby new appearance, he outspeeds Greninja. In the rain only. He has great 100/110/110 defenses, one weakness, an immunity to electric, which is another godsend for rain teams. Oh yeah, and 150 base attack.
don't underestimate Sableye either. He's basically anti-Stealth Rock. He'll block any status move you throw at him and reflect it back to you. Wanna poison him? Nope, you get poisoned instead. Have a nice day. Sableye can also run Calm MInd and Taunt to put a full stop to Chansey and Blissey.
Sharpedo's good. Protect first turn, get the Speed Boost, Mega Evolve, kill things. This means you can run Adamant with him and outspeed key threats. Also, Strong Jaw.
Mega Camerupt is OP in Trick Room. Literally spam Sheer Force Flamethrower and GG. He'll die to a simple splash of water though so be careful. He also speed ties Ferrothorn and M-Sableye.
Altaria has hands-down the best typing in the game. She puts a full stop to Charizard Y, Mega Sceptile...she'll be handy. She can also run either physical or special - with Pixilate-boosted Return or Hyper Voice.
Glalie...eh. He's not that great. 120 offenses, but more of a suicide mon than anything else. He's too slow to outspeed anything relevant - base 100 makes him tie with Zard and be outsped by...you know, pretty much all of the new megas.
Salamence. If you use him, I consider you a noob. He's the Mega Kangaskhan of ORAS and once he gets up that Substitute, you're officially screwed. Base 130 defense for a Dragon Dancer, 145 attack, 120 speed, AERILATE, and...oh yeah, he can live an Ice Shard from Mamoswine and kill it right back.
Metagross has been improved, but I'm sure the hype will die down. He's faster, stronger, and can take a hit better than he used to, but Steel / Psychic really does not hit too many types. He's pretty decent, but like I said he'll probably drop to UU or BL eventually. No lower though.
The Latis are good, Latias can set up SubCM and sweeep. Mega Latios isn't that great despite what I just said though, because regular Latios does just as well, and can hold a Life Orb to become more powerful anyway. He also doesn't gain any speed so it's pretty much useless. Meanwhile Latias gets 120/140 defenses.
Megalop can hit any mon in the game between normal and fighting, thanks to scrappy. No Pokemon ever resists that combination. None. Zip. She's also pretty fast.
Gallade's finally gonna see OU. The Caped Crusader was blessed with 110 speed, +30 defense, and also 165 attack. Ability is useless and it's weak to priority Brave Birds but it's great everywhere else.
Audino is awful.
DIancie is my mega of choice, and I'm happy to inform you guys that I might
be doing the official Smogon analysis for her. We'll see about that.
yup, looking forward to oras!
