That's because Mario was fighting a SMB3 Bowser underwater and Peach is a SMB3 Goal Orb.

That's true. Just remember what player do with friendly NPCs, when they are not marked as friendly.

Or in another way of doing it it could have an invisible goal orb in front of a friendly Peach NPC.
