Now that SMBX2 gets better and better, SMBX2 could be a spiritual successor of SMBX by Redigit when the full SMBX2 is out. The possibility is endless with LUA now.

It's not just a spiritual successor, SMBX2 is a continuation of Redigit's SMBX, albeit as a mod built around the engine rather than a new version of the engine itself.

EDIT: welp, looks like I'm still cursed to have my replies without quotes end up starting new pages

Correct. We want to give as many customisation power to the episodes themselves as possible. We've made it possible for people to customise their pause menus and are looking to make episode-specific credits levels of varying length possible too. We treat each episode as a standalone game which you can plug into the engine and play. The main menu didn't really do anything in favour of that.
Well, that's the answer to my question. That's a bob-omb exploding in my hands, but I see what you're going for.

*sigh*

I just love when the things I enjoy become so painful, it saps the energy out of me.

how...

They're just removing the main menu, it's not that big of a deal. As much as I liked the old episode selector, it's kind of redundant when you have everything accessible through the launcher.

Launcher = crash/do nothing, which I had already mentioned.

I mean, sure, blame my hardware, but that's not something I can do anything about.

I'm not sure what is wrong with your copy of the game... are you able to open the game through the old main menu?
I did come up with an idea for situations like this. Perhaps we can have the main menu a toggable feature, which is off by default? That way, if there are people who can't launch the game via the launcher, they may still be able to launch via the main menu.
Ofcourse, this may be pointless, but it's all i can think of to solve this issue.

If y'all are really gonna miss the main menu thaaaaaaat much, just play and earlier version. Simple as that.
Besides, in 2.3, you barely get to see the main menu anyways, so it's kinda pointless.

I'm able to run 1.4 just fine, but the 2.3 launcher crashes, never starting up the game at all.

I've done all I can on my end, but as far as I can see it, I've been forced into obsolescence, and for a developer, that is always a bad thing.

That said, this is the flavor of game development as of late, and all I can do is observe. It is the Symphony of Destruction.

Has anyone tried to help you fix your problem besides Tay? If you are having a bug, error or crash every time you try to start up 2.0 I would think the devs would want to try and figure out the issue so anyone else with the problem and you could play the game. I guess I am lucky because I have experienced very few crashes with 2.0 and it runs great on my laptop. I wish everyone could play the game with zero problems but it seems like with any game there is always a few people that can't seem to get it to work right.

The issue is that it used to run fine.
But over time, something stopped working and then neither that not PGE would run correctly. I eventually got PGE to run correctly, but SMBX 2b3 no longer runs. I've tried reinstalling various C++ redistributables, no luck.

That definitely sounds like an issue with your computer. Perhaps a virus draining its resources?

If it used to run fine, there's not a lot that can be done from our side, since it clearly is compatible with your machine, but some sort of error has occurred with your computer preventing it from running.

If it is something related to your computer, which is the most likely reason, then i suggest you either see if you can run some antivirus and see if that fixes the issue; take it to your local computer store and see if they can repair it; or if it is something unfixable then you should seek to get a new laptop / pc.
I'm sorry this issue has happened to you, but other than those 3 solutions there probably isn't anything else you can do aside from restoring your pc / laptop to it's factory settings. I wish you luck :)

It sounds like at one point or another you got a Trojan, and it's been slowly degrading your computers performance ever since. I suggest backing up your stuff onto a flash drive and doing a factory reset.

All are great suggestions, for someone with spare capital.

I've been meaning to do a few things regarding backups/upgrades/etcetera...

As of now, I'm lucky to actually have food in the house. (should give an idea of how poor I am)

But, this here, will likely derail the discussion should it go much further.

One thing I know for sure is that when it did work, it didn't work well due to my OpenGL being far and away out of date. As far as I can tell, I cannot fix that, nor repair the drivers or whatever because that's hardcoded, at least, from what I could find via unhelpful Google.

Looking to get a graphics card, if I can get the assistance because saving money isn't possible. That will help.

Flash drives aren't that much money, but if it's still too much you could back up your stuff to a file storing site like media fire or dropbox. Dropbox gives 30gb free, from what I remember.

Last I checked dropbox gave like, 2GB free or something plus a few extra for inviting people, nowhere near 30. Did they change it recently?

I messed up. Drop box gives 2gb, it's Mega that gives 30gb.

Mega gives 50GB unless that's changed since the last time I signed up for a free account.

And I have pretty much used up all the space on mine, lol

Anyway, I won't be able to do anything until I can get financial assistance in this regard.

If you have an office 365 account and sign up to onedrive i'm pretty sure you get 1TB worth of data - however, that storage plan does cost £60, so unless you are willing to pay that much for 1TB of data, i suggest looking elsewhere. Onedrive is user friendly however and is simple to use.
