This is really nice! Just needs some shading on the edges. I'd also add an outline between the snow and fill tile since the two are similar colors, but that might not fit with the style you're going for.

And he didn't tell you the original was by me is what I'm getting.
The reason why he had it is because he had some sort of idea to improve my original concept and then I mean he had it at that point and I guess forgot I made the original or something?

I mean it's pretty different at this point and yours conveys an entirely different feeling so I don't see what's the big deal.

Credit is nice though...
It's a big deal to Sanct since he made the original. Kinda rude.

It bears a pretty striking resemblance if I'm gonna be completely honest. It's got an exact tile pattern along the edges and a near exact infill. Credit would be nice since they're pretty much the same. To me it looks like whoever showed you the tileset didn't tell you it was Sanct's.

Of course it "conveys a different feel", you recolored it. If I grab Reghrhre's forest ruins tileset and "Give it a different feel" by remodeling it into a desert ruins tileset, it would still be reghrhre's tileset now wouldn't it?.

I agree with the posts just above. Both tilesets look very similar with the newer looking like a revamp of Sanct's with solely some reshading and a different fill pattern; he definitely deserves credit here

Literally the only thing that was retained were the black lines at this stage. Everything else was remade from scratch. If you insist I can change the outline too, cause apparently that one's copyrighted (not that copyright ever gets in the way of anyone stealing on this forum. Like, actually stealing). After all, this is the WIP showcase. No need for all the hyperbole.
I mean just look at how similar these are, am I right, fellow humans?

I just wanted partial credit for the original version of the tileset as an inspiration, I never wanted it to be changed.

Damn it Enjl, just give credit to Sanct for the original graphics! -_-"
Anyways, Here's my custom Mario sprites I been working on for the past few weeks. It's Sega Genesis-style Small Mario sprites:

The contrast on your colours is very low and looks like the sprite uses 6 colours when in reality it uses double I think:
Red, blue, skin, brown, white, black.
I suggest increasing the contrast between different shades of a hue.

Thanks man, and this was my first attempt on making sprites using colors from the Sega Genesis/Mega Drive color palette.

I don't really see why it was neccesary to include a list of bad feedback examples. Anyways, they look decent, but it's kinda weird how Mario's head size changes on the forward and backwards facing sprite.

Thanks Snessy, and to be honest, I did struggle when creating the forward and backward facing sprites, due to me trying to find a SMB2 USA small Mario sprite facing forward.

: | face when receiving the feedback you asked for? I'm puzzled.
Reminder that "style" and "palette" are two different things. I can't really comment on the style since I haven't played any genesis games and games from a console tend to have different styles anyways (see: SMW vs Yoshi's Island), but whether you use palette A or palette B, the way you would approach picking colours is the same either way. It's not like your knowledge of colour theory gets reset whenever you're confronted with a new selection of colours.
When it comes to palettes downloaded online, it's important to remember that you can use colours that aren't relatively close to one another. The megadrive palette I found has a rather poor layout that doesn't really lend itself well to quickly doing digital art with it, so I spent some time looking for appropriate colours:

Here's my first attempt at using this palette to recolour a sprite:

Pretty much out of "WIP" but not released currently: Scuttlebug sprite I made for SMBX2. Uses SMB3 palette, but doesn't follow SMB3 style. (previously we used these things in the 4th row)

Thanks Enjl. Guess I really need to learn more about 16-bit Genesis art. ^^
P.S. Feel free to finish up with the custom small Mario sprites in your suggested style if you want. I'm okay with it. Credit me for the original attempt!

I don't intend to edit your sprites any further. I was just making a point.

That scuttlebutt scuttlebug is pretty sweet! I'm glad it's not based on the original SM64 version. He looks kinda shiny though - are scuttlebugs supposed to be like that?

That looks sweet! How many A-presses did it take you to make?
