Wow, that's a lot of stuff you made there, I honestly doubt I would use more than a half of what's there, I probably couldn't give it good use. Thanks for extending it though. If you're that bored you could also extend the rest ... if you can. =P

Is that it? Haha, there are far more than just that.

Although it's nice to see you're trying to. By the way, once you resize that spritesheet the bigger mushrooms shall have 4x4 pixels, you should try to fix that.

I'm making my first actual background. It is still WIP but how does it look so far?

I'm gonna be overly critical right now:
-I like the pattern on the trunks, but the shading makes them look like rounded squares. The front row of trees isn't clearly distinct either due to no colour difference.
-I'd honestly add an infinite amount of tree rows and scratch the gradient. To create a forest feeling, not just a treeline feeling. If you keep a gradient though, make it smoother. Maybe copy the style from SMB3-Blocks and just change the hue?
-The trees look a bit too regular and symmetrical. I think having different tree shapes and asymmetrical trees would make them look nicer.
-Last but not least: You should change the trees' shading up a bit. Imagine every 2 or 3 green pixels was a leaf. Try creating a messy shading which shows that there are leaves there. You can place bright and dark colours according to your chosen pattern.

Not bad for a first attempt though. I should try getting into background design aswell :P

I REALLY wish I could do all that stuff but my paint app is limited.

Which program are you using? Any program which can handle a pencil, fill and colour selection tool can be used to do all of this.

I bolded the things you said in which I could actually do.
*Why? I like the way the trees look similar. I know what you are getting at but it doesn't seem very necessary.

Looks good, but i suggest you to recolor it to gray to make it less chocolate-ish.

Blue Greed, the underlying parts of the trees (darkest green color used in the middle to give the impression of being layered) should respond to the light source even though that they rightfully give the impression of being layered.

As for the gradient, there should be a more even transition (as in, the size of the squares to represent the transition from orange to dark blue).

Yeah, still working on this. There has barely been any progress, but yay! Conveyor belt replacements!
