To be honest, the topic title mentions "musicians" and if we only allowed pop/rock/rap/whatever has lyrics artists and that, then it would only be about bands/singers.

Well, he writes music so I think he should at least be eligible. Plus, not every "legit" music needs lyrics - genres like jazz and progressive rock involve a lot of instrumental music, including instrumental bands (i.e. Brand X, Tangerine Dream).

For what it's worth, Koji Kondo has mentioned his musical inspirations and they're pretty legit - Emerson, Lake & Palmer being one of them.
