If it's someone abusing it on someone else, tell a staff member. If it's directed towards you, report the PM sent to you dealing with the rep system.

That's really cool.

I'm glad you are community leader. You're doing such a GREAT job I can't even put it in words.
Thumps up.

Unless the downrep is something like "u suck" or "fuck off", you shouldn't be allowed to get an instant board warning over something so stupid. So, let us put it this way. You give an invalid downrep, and you get a verbal warning saying next time you give an invalid downrep, you'll receive a board warning. By the way, don't say 'a board warning is a blink of an eye to me'. In this case, it's really not; it's actually kind of a big deal, since again, you shouldn't be able to receive that big of a consequence for merely giving an invalid or a bad downrep. Still, something like "u suck" or "fuck off" is worthy of a board warning, but I'm basically repeating what I said earlier. Therefore, I'll leave it at that.
Old downreps on christian07 are quite invalid.

In which way it could help the specific user. Afterall i didn't see a rule you not allowed to downrep someone who bumped an old thread or am i blind.

You could just tell them you don't like it.

If you could do that then explain some downrep on some users in which they weren't told about that. Downreps can help and tell you what you should change it works for some for others it doesn't.

Now they aren't, back then they were, if that makes any sense.

You're not blind, it's just that there's no rule in the forum rules stating 'you cannot bump old topics', so downrepping someone because they bumped an old topic is abusing and unnecessary in my eyes. But bumping something and posting something irrelevant is another story, and that's very well worthy of a downrep.

What are you talking about right now? I never said anything like that. All I said was 'it's abusive to downrep someone because they bumped an old topic'.
You're going to have to make it clearer what you're trying to get out of me, CaptainSyrup.

It is allowed to downrep a user for bumping. Apparently you are allowed to downrep someone for breaking the rules. Kinda stupid, though. What's the report button for, then?

But that's really stupid. Bumping is not a bad thing and you shouldn't get a consequence for it, unless you bump an old topic posting something irrelevant to the thread. I don't know why people don't understand this.

Posts have to somewhat constructive from the start, but when it comes to bumps the post really HAS to be constructive, otherwise I don't see why the downrep is unfair or whatever. About the report button serving the same purpose, yeah it does, but that doesn't mean anything because the downrep is still an input from the userbase.

I feel like the report button isn't used enough nowadays, because people insantly go the downrep route.
Tbh downreps for breaking a rule are OK as long as the person knows better (downrepping a new user for something they don't know isn't cool)

Downrepped for making the reputation system look bad.
But in all seriousness, the rep system is a terrible mess and should not have been implemented.

What you're not understanding is that the reputation mod helps users become better people, even if it doesn't look like it. You see, users like Christian started out with about 12 downreps, and now he has 5. Why? Because he listened to the mod and made an effort to become a better person. Same with SMBXxer. He had, like, what, 13 downreps? And now he has about 2. So the system does have a purpose; to help users become better people, and yes, some people ignore it, some people make a big deal out of it, and some people never even mention it, and it is sometimes prone to drama, but it's still there for a reason. In addition, it's been here this long, I doubt it's going to get removed now.
